You should know that you can't just "turn on at whim" graphics characteristics if they weren't in the original programming. Few PC games are modeled at the level of top cards, it would be pointless for the developers.
I have mega bucks computer cards -they boost AA and resolution, buy the basic light shading and rendering don't get any better.
GT5 has been delayed because of frame rate issues -Codemasters just went ahead and released a game with crap frame rates.
As for the game shots -they aren't the final game, and Youtube videos of TVs really don't tell us anything.
I know I know and I know but, Crysis (as someone mentioned) was released years ago, and still puts many PC and Console games to shame engine wise, you can turn **** including the lighting, down to make it playable on lesser cards, so that was my point, the basic lighting and shading do get better or worse if these settings are altered, and PC's don't piss around with upscaling.
Also, we are seeing games that can switch from different directX and open GL versions at a whim, this involves the lighting and shading (textures and tessellation also) altering drastically each time you do this, if you can't notice these changing then the game is pretty basic or your cards don't support these features.
You don't need megabucks video cards these days, if you are running multiple displays or are worried about bottlenecks for you uber expensive PC, fine, but both ATI and Nvidia make cards that have much more powerful GPU's than the entire PS3 for under $300 NZ. (if in doubt, check out folding@home for a start)
I'm not saying the PS3 is ****, or GT5 will be ****, but there's no comparison when it comes to which is more technologically advanced, otherwise we'd be seeing Cell powered workstations, but that's not happening, and even if it would, Sony would knock it on the head.
As for crap frame rates, I play on the PC, and I must admit I was a bit dishonest about the initial FPS i posted, it was actually a low of 47fps (not 60fps) with a top fps well near the 100's.
