I’ve been asking myself the following question : what kind of World Champion do we really want ?

I myself want a champion that brings talks around him.
A cocky one, one that makes us fuzz, that makes us stand on our chairs when we watch a GP or when he is talked about, one that we go on talking during winter break.

Button was surely not one. He exasperatedly was flaw, not tiger eye, no glamour, resigned…

Hamilton is someone people talk about, and still do, he brings something to cheer about, his ways of driving, his personal stories, his girl-friends…

Alonso is Latin, he is hot, has a big mouth, wherever he is, people talk about him, get excited…

Webber ? I’m afraid is a bit like Jenson is ? Won’t make us sweat if he is champion ? (and I would like him to be)

Vettel ? He has the youth, he is cocky (even too much), he makes extraordinary and crazy things, people talk about him, get excited, take his defense or nail him…

What kind of Champion do we want ? A Mansell in all his glory, a Senna with all his glamour, a Prost with all his science, or another Button of whom, end of the day nobody is really interested in, just live him through the season, just like he does.

What kind of champion do you people want ? Introvert ? Extrovert ? Hot or cold ?

I am very curious...

he's been an excellent champion, if being an ambassador for the sport is what you are getting at.

I want one who shuts up and drives a racing car with panache and style.

But then again, theres not much to talk about. Alcohol and strip clubs are always a plus, though.

I dont care what"type of champion",its irrelavent to me.a wdc is not better because he has more social status i.e flair,karizma.button is a worthy champion(imo)

Yes, a great one. Calm, but a champion people loved and talked about, that's what I mean, someone who makes us dream, someone we want to see attack, not a wimp (sorry Jenson), with no cojones...
So, who then from the 4 postulants ? A wincky, or a big mouth ?

I never said he was not "worthy" ! I said nobody really cares about him...He is a mild driver who became champion because Ross was smarter interpretating the rules to analyze, which he received before the others. And Rubens, as usual, casual.

Someone with star quality. Today there are only four such guys on the grid: Fernando, Lewis, Sebastian and Michael.

And I don't want the one driving the best car romp off into the distance (unless the cars' red :drunk:

), so no thanks to Vettel.

we had too much german already... the brits are also over represented...

alonso therefore would be a worth champion.. he really drives like a champ... webber... i dearly would like him to win it... but with his recent drives i wonder if he's worth it

anyway, button should indeed shut up, complain less, show his balls and drive the wheels of that car... if not he should set the example for drivers like trulli and exit f1.

And apart from that, wins more races than his competitors, and wins them without team orders.

Characterwise I like a laid back personality, no fits, no whinging, pretty much introvert, just doing his job and not being concerned at all about his image.

I like the different characters of all the contenders and they would all make good F1 champs this year. I admit there are differences and some appear to have more flamboyance than others. In order of what I can see of character (most exciting to least exciting), it goes (IMO) :

1) Vettel
2) Alonso
3) Webber
4) Hamilton
5) Button

The order I would actually like to see is...

1) Vettel
2) Webber
3) Hamilton
4) Button
5) Alonso

I think its irrelevant, you can say driver A would be a good embassador for the sport, or driver B is too dull or whatever, but apart from briefly raising interest inF1 in their own country, what do they do? how do they fill their embassador role? Securing more endorsements probably. I loved kimi, but the fact that he was defending champ in 08 meant nothing to me.

We need a Senna, a Hunt. Someone with Charisma. Not someone who smiles, says the right things to keep Bernie and the sponsors happy.

Mark is the closest you have, followed by Button and and Alonso. Hamilton and Vettel are just wishy washy and say what people want to hear and smile for the cameras.

Its all very tiresome.

I want the champ to be extraordinarily talented. A driver who can make wonders on track (like Lewis at '08 Silverstone). Also, I want the champ to be a driver who fights 'til the end and somehow wins the tight battles, in a sportsmanlike manner, though. I want that racing is more important for the champ than winning. By that I mean he's not racing just for glory, he loves racing and that's the reason why he is racing. Of course he wants to win, too, but he doesn't take winning too seriously, he knows this is just a sport.

Sportsmanlike is another important quality for the champ. I hope he plays by the rules, also by the unwritten ones.

The third thing I want from the champ is star quality. That makes him the ambassador of our sport. Anyway, the driver who is closest what I want from the champ is ... Lewis Hamilton. He is talented, he clearly loves racing, not just winning, he is fair competitor and he's a superstar.

* Do you want a WDC that called his main rival a "cheater" when things didn't go his way at the time?
* Do you want a WDC that four years ago said "F1 is not a sport" when things didn't go his way at the time?
* Do you want a WDC that threw his toys out of the pram and called out his team boss and rookie team mate?
* Do you want a WDC that was one of the main characters during Spygate and the one that got a "get out of jail free"-card if he came clean?
* Do you want a WDC that still considers Singapore 2008 a legit win and that he knew nothing about what took place behind the scenes?
* Do you want a WDC that call on track action "ridiculous" and needs more RPMs than his team mate at a given time to play the team orders card?

I want the one that makes most other fans cry and go monkey on forums. You know a modern WDC is mediocre when nobody loves to hate him. Well except for Mika I guess.

Well seriously, I want a WDC who drives with flair and consistancy. One who can nail a last minute hot lap in Q3 and who will also conserve his machinery while winning a race. One who is a great team player, building the team around him. One who doesn't lose his motivation when things turn against him. One who respects his opponents, while believing that he is still the best. A supreme sportsman who plays hard but fair, knowing when to lose the battle in order to win the war. One who will never resort to bullying tactics against either his team or his opponents, on or off track. One who expects his teammate to fight him fairly, knowing he can beat him. One who gives good interviews to the press and has time for the fans.

Sadly, this year it'll have to be either Alonso, Webber, Hamilton, Vettel or Button.

just because he got **** thrown at him for every single mistake he did and yet he still has a chance to win the title, even though he lost 3 victories because of car failures.
If he can pull it of he is the new raikkönen, just a little bit louder
