Yeah that's abit strange regarding Shanghai International Circuit being subject to homologation...maybe it's just an error

The actual circuit is in Asia though so if we're being technical... :p

Surprise Singapore doesn't have an * next to it seeing as they said they're altering the track layout slightly.

No changes in comparison to provisional calendar released earlier. Well, except that homologation for Shanghai thing.

is this calendar definitive? Cos the previous two years (2009 and 2010) Brazil was the last one as well, to then agree a swap with Abu Dhabi

Well if we count Turkey as Europe, that gives us 9 there, 7 in Asia, 2 in Arabia, and 1 each in North America and South America. What exactly is the problem?

Hmmm interesting indeed. I guess some such changes are happening, says it on the FIA press release as well.

I guess it's a money thing, if the folks in Abu Dhabi want the last GP they'll just have to strike a deal like this year.

As to China, some planned track changes I guess.

that in a couple of years less European countries will host a GP, in a sport born and raised in Europe

Is it? Logistic problems with getting all the stuff from Europe to Istanbul was underlined many times and it was pointed out before that it's probaby easier to get there from Asia.

Is it going be treated as fly away race then?

There 3 weeks break between China and Turkey. I would rather think teams would like their cars brought back to factories that locked in DHL boxes

Everyone has to leave home someday. Europe has more races than any other region. And Russia and USA are fine editions. You want it to be a world championship don't you?

Personally I've never cared for the 'World Championship' tag. As long as there is public support for the race.

It was an issue that getting from Monaco to Turkey in 1 week is too difficult. Nothing else.

I was going to ask that too. It doesn't make sense unless there's a major change to the circuit.

I don't count Turkey as a European race. The circuit itself is on the Asian side, as is most of the country.

For the sake of the argument it is. F1's spread is more about geo political regions than continents.

The initial homologation has run out and they are going to use that stick to get repairs to the sections that have sunk in. The track is built in a swamp and floats on a years supply of Asian Styrofoam. Apparently some differences in the ground density have caused different setting of the earth and created severe bumps that modern F1 cars can't deal with.

Sadly, yes.

Why sadly? Would you like it better if it was called 'GP of Spain II'? Is it because you don't like the track?

It's far easier to adjust your suspension settings than it is to reprofile a track. Makes for a better race too.

That seems ok. Although we cant watch winter testing we can follow it, so for me the season starts 01/02/11 and ends at the end of November. I can cope with 10 out of 12 months without testing or a race.

The teams seem to disagree with that sentiment.

I'm also reading that the FiA is not satisfied with the drainage system.

Interlagos finale might not be so sure as Abu Dhabi may strike a deal just like they did this year.

Opening in Australia won't happen again unless they make it a night race, there's no point to let all the extra attention and publicity of the season's opening go to waste by airing the race in the the middle of the night in Europe.

Well, the Aussies themselves decided to be Asian when playing football (I assume that playing against the Kiwies every time should be boring).

What was wrong with Abu Dhabi? I remember the race last year being pretty good, with a decent amount of overtaking for a dry race. The Button/Webber battle for 2nd at the end was really good.

And it produced some crackers in GP2, as well.

May not be the most characterful track but I think its a good spectacle, visual-wise and it produced good racing, so I say it deserves its place on the calendar.

I'm not gonna complain about Interlagos being the last race, though. ;)

I hope that Interlagos remains as the finale, because Nov 27th is the Thanksgiving Weekend here in the United States, meaning that I'd be off of work wednesday afternoon and could fly to Brazil for my first GP! :) I can't do it unless it's that weekend. Fingers crossed that it stays put.

The only overtaking i remember was done by kamakazi Kobi, mainly because the other drivers were nervous around him and couldnt get out of his way quick enough, take him out of the race and it was pretty dull. For me Abu Dhabi is just a procession in a hotel carpark,oh theres some nice pretty colours, if you like that sort of thing.

Most F1 races are processional. It's the artificial flat hotel carpark bit that I don't like about it.

This is why im saying Interlagos should be the final GP, we end the year on a real race at a great track, and not just another processional one!

Did they not make Abu Dhabi the last race because the teams could stay there after the race and start testing. Made sense then. Why not now?

I think they got the last race slot because they paid for it. They didn't test at Abu Dhabi in 2009. I think they're doing it this year to get Pirellis on the cars as soon as possible.

How is Barcelona still on the calendar after producing consistently poor racing year after year?

I hope it gets the axe after the US/Russian grand prixs join the calendar. Of course it won't though because of Alonso.
