MTV3 just reported that Webber is on his way out Kimi style. RB will pay his salary but he cant compete in F1 2012

The rumor is all over the paddock, I hope is not true, Mark is a great guy and a good driver, but probably is true.

The article on their website seems to be pointing at BBC as a source of that info. Was there anything like that mentioned during FP coverage ?

1315: On our Red Button coverage there's more speculation about Mark Webber and his Red Bull future. The Aussie did sign a one-year contract extension back in June but BBC pit-lane reporter Holly Samos says the rumour in the paddock is that he will leave Red Bull at the end of the season whether he wins the title or not. Interesting. Kravitz says the chat is that Webber wouldn't go to another team if he left Red Bull and would simply retire. Anyway, Button is up to fourth with a 1:13.267.

The beeb reporting is of "speculation". If the MTV3 report is a recycling of beeb reporting, then it seems a lot less certain than the MTV3 report seems to have suggested (at least judging by the OP).

I'm doubting this because I don't understand why it would happen like that instead of them just releasing him from his contract. Unless Webber is retiring anyway and happy to take the free money. But I don't think it quite makes sense still.

Does MTV3 say this is because of the latest outburst, or before that (i.e. what might have caused it)?

EDIT: If the Beeb is their source for that, clearly MTV3 are misquoting them.

They were talking about it a lot on BBC, but only hypotheticaly IIRC.

As much as Mark would like the money for doing nowt. I'm sure, as a racer, he'd rather do that then take the money anyway?

I don't know what came first, the non-contract for next year or Webber mouthing off.

In any instance, out of all the top drivers this season, Webber has been the one who has mouthed off the most.

Why not swap him for Massa at Ferrari? But then, he'd probably mouth off even more at Ferrari.

It would be hard at his age to get another driver for 2012, even if he is 2010 champion.

How about Schumacher? I think he's shown this year he has the potential to become a good number two.

Yep we get it, things are crap for him within the team, the team want Vettel to do well, the team think Vettel is the future.

Webber just needs to accept that is the case and just keep his head down and focus on running his own two races, doing as well as he can in both and whatever happens happens. If he wins the title, fantastic, he quits and is part of history. If he doesn't, then at least he gave his all.

But his language right now seems to suggest he is doing more feeling sorry for himself than just focussing on kicking Vettel's arse.

I'm not sure how much of the above is due to a season of feeling like an outsider or how much of it is due to the sudden pressure being the title leader and crashing has done to him.

He should go have a chat with Button.. or Hamilton... hell even Eddie Irvine would probably have some good advice for him right now. Get your head down and beat the team on the track.

I wonder how they would arrange Webber to be paid next year, the Red Bull drivers are paid oddly compared to the other teams, the majority of their money comes from performance bonuses, so if he's not racing would he just get the piddly (for a top team) base salary?

Actually, it's kind of interesting, go back over things this year and imagine the money involved. Singapore everyone thought Mark was making life difficult for Hamilton to mark his territory for the championship, he was probably screaming in his helmet: "NO!! I NEED THIS PODIUM TO PAY FOR MY NEW KITCHEN!!!!". All the mechanics throwing their hands up in Turkey: "Damnit, there goes our summer holiday to Fiji...Guess we're off to Swindon again this year."

It's pretty clear something is up, I thought Mark's interview was fanatstic. He really did not put a foot wrong if you read the entire transcript, nothing he said was offensive.

I suspect he may well be out, though I dispute it's a great seat because Mark is mega strong headed and I cannot see any other driver that i snot an out and out superstar (Alonso/Hamilton) survive the way he has this year. RBR will be looking for a number 2, not a guy to challenge Vettel.

You really should not pay any attention to anything MTV3 "reports". It's probably the worst media reporting F1, ever. Yeah, worse than the Spanish.

I'm assuming you guys are talking about Webber winning the WDC, then having one more season and calling it quits, just like what Raikkonen did?

If so, what's so bad about that? The guy is pretty old. WDC or not he doesn't have much more than 2-3 seasons left in him, let alone 2-3 seasons left for him to fight for the WDC

If you're talking about Webber retiring after winning the WDC this season, then I have no idea where you got the idea that Kimi Raikkonen did that. He stayed on for a whole 2 seasons after winning his WDC....
