i've just found out that in 2009, the turks and caicos islands, a british overseas territory, where due to hold a round of the indy racing league. Does anyone know if the event is due to happen next year or in the near future or why it failed to happen in the first place. I don't remember autosport magazine reporting it or anbody for that matter

Wikipedia says the government signed a letter of intent for a 2009 GP but it doesn't say what happened after that...

So they had the gravel traps, it was only a circuit that had to be built.

True

It must of been an undulating track if it was built.

In August 2009, the United Kingdom suspended the Turks and Caicos' self-government after allegations of ministerial corruption.

Well, I reckon we'd give them independence in a New York minute. These Overseas Territories are nothing but a nuisance for HMG - either they are dependent financially, and if they aren't, they are dodgy tax havens and/or drug trafficking centres. And many of the rest of the world keep using them to bash the UK about being 'colonialists'.

Presumably this race idea was scrapped by Whitehall when they took over.

thats probaly the reason, i mean they want to be independant but can't look after themselves without our help
