Well, Tim's own film/DVD was "very close" to happening when I was fortunate to spend an evening with him in NZ - he showed me some rough footage and exerpts - but that was almost 18 months ago ! (time flies, dammit )

And just to clarify : This one (Love, Speed and Loss) is of course not the DVD that Tim was working on himself, but the well-known Richard Driver produced documentary from 2006.

I just ordered my book from Wheelers (as in Rennmax's post on page1) $44.99 plus $48 p+p to Scotia! Must be a weighty tome indeed. I had to wait until payday yesterday before coughing up the near $100, as my bank book took an awful doin' at the tt there, £90 just for my mobile bill this month! I had the same problem with postage when my daughter was in New Zealand for a couple of years. She was really missing her mountain bike, but the air mail was more than the bike was worth, so I sent her money to buy one out there instead.

Recent news from Tim - copied from the "Nobby Clark" thread

Hello to everyone. I love the Forum and I do keep an eye on it. This regretable business with Nobby needed a response and so do the enquiries about my documentary on Kim Newcombe. I have had a struggle over the last year or so as I have been unable to find a distributor for my book 'Kim - The Kiwi On The Konig' in the UK and local sales have been slow. However it is selling and my partners in the film and I have finished it to the limit of available funding - with maybe 30% to go. We managed to find additonal contemporary footage that was wonderful and I settled with Richard Driver's production company out of court. I had accused Driver of multiple breaches of contract and of stealing my film project after I had taken it to him to produce it with me. Driver had a lot of money behind him and I did not so the settlement was someting of a relief and among other things I obtained my original interview with Janeen Newcombe. This interview was very different to the interviews that Driver subsequently undertook when she was close to death. He and his cronies broke her down emotionally and used that footage in their bleakly indulgent version of my film. My interview features Janeen telling her story of her time with Kim and The Continental Circus the way she always told it - with pride and tremendous joy. Of course there is also sadness but I was careful to treat her with proper respect and she handled the harder moments with courage and dignity. I have also managed to undertake new filming and I had a fantastic session with Rod Tingate and his Konig on a beautiful little track outside Melbourne. On a day that featured torrential rain, lightning, thunder and eventually bright sunshine Rod screamed around the track while we filmed him. I love the footage and it is a great addition to the film. At the moment we are contemplating using 'Crowd Funding' to get the money together to finish the film. We thought that perhaps a signed and dedicated copy of the book (all 1.6 kg of it), a copy of the DVD and a Konig T Shirt for NZ$100 might attract some interest from folk who would like to see the film finished.
I'm working on another book and life is generally good. The Commando gets an airing from time to time and as I now live in Central Otago I am lucky to have some of the best riding in the world to enjoy. Just ask Henry Cole! Actually Henry dropped into the pub Janel and I run for lunch and we ended up on one of his dirt bike episodes. We run an annual rally which you can check out on www.bikeweeknz.com.

Well Tim, I'm still waiting on mine. Wheelers took my payment (and later offered a refund) for the book when it wasn't actually in stock. I was told "the publisher said that more copies are on their way" so opted to just wait a bit longer. That was a month ago. I'm really looking forward to reading the book, but it's proving a bit elusive.

It might be quicker than the option I chose. Wheelers say they have now posted my book, which I've been told to expect "in a few weeks" I expressed my disappointment at this, bearing in mind the cost of postage which was more than the book's price. I received a terse reply that it was not being sent airmail. So, is it arriving by boat? and what is the nearly $50 price of p&p to pay for, I don't know.

Tim's book on John Britten was very good, I'm sure this one on Kim will be worth the wait. Meanwhile, anyone else in the UK wanting one for a Christmas present, if you order now you might be in luck.

That one probably sold more ( as it appealed to a larger public ) and was distributed by Penguin - mine is a small size paperback and is printed in 2009, said to be the 13th ( !!!) reprint since the original edition (2005).

Ah well, after all that, the book beat me home. My wife told me that a package arrived for me today from NZ (by air, btw) which I'm looking forward to opening, when I return from the north sea on Tuesday.

Just straying a bit further along the Burt Munro (off-)topic, the "World's Fastest Indian" film led to two other books : George Begg's self-published "Burt Munro - Legend of Speed", and film-maker Roger Donaldson's "The World's Fastest Indian - Burt Munro - A scrapbook of his life" which came with a DVD which included the earlier documentary "Offerings to the God of Speed".
