when was the 1st time that roll-cages used in racing cars ?

I would nominate the Miller of the 20's called the Golden Submarine. Designed for Barney Oldfield.
I'll have to find a picture of it somewhere...

The article does say that the enclosed body was intended to protect the driver if the car rolled over, so - any advance on 1917?
