Looks a bit like something you'd expect to see on Top Gear, which is interesting because they've got the Top Gear track in there and the Top Gear logo on the screen at the end.

I hope they release a decent wheel with the game...crying shame that the xbox has no decent wheel available. Also, wasn't the rumour that this would be a kinetic enabled game?

I know I'm a PS3 owner, but I'm not sure I see the attraction of using Kinetic for a driving game. It doesn't make it more realistic, I for one would prefer to have a wheel in my hand rather than holding them out in mid air.

Me neither... It seems more of a novelty item than both the Wii and PS Move... at least these two systems have inbuilt feedback devices (rumble), have an actual peripheral item to interact with, and are thus more practical.

Kinect for proper driving games would be utter crap... sitting there with your hands up getting no real world feedback from what you're doing!! Even with a pad you get rumble...

450 euros for a wheel and pedal combo as my only option for the 360... :cry: no way that's getting approved by the missus. Hopefully they'll release the VW or Skoda version.

I'm also not convinced about using Kinetic for driving games.

It's a steep price but at least there is an option.

Kinect does seem a bit silly for racing, especially considering the 1/2 second delay, but who knows, someone might figure out a use for it, there's already people hacking it for pc, so maybe it could be used a tracking device, or even just to pull the handbrake on in a rally game? There's definitely scope for it anyway....

That was a load of rubbish. So racing is all about just 'putting your hands at 10 and 2'? How do you brake, accelerate, change gear, change view, adjust driver aids... do anything at all apart from steer left or right?

Plus, walking around a car is possible with a game controller, you just need that mode set into the game... adding some flashy little videos on pressing hotspots is nothing impressive either...

It should be mentioned that you can use a wheel or controller as well, you're not forced to use kinect.

I know you can, but my point is Microsoft are trying to sell this technology in their own pitch as 'the future of racing'. It's clearly not, and any credible racing game that gets based around this is going to crash and burn. Using it for walking around a car, ok, that would be quite cool, especially if the cars are of the same quality as the premium models in GT5 (Photomode with Kinect tech), but tacking on some flashy video for hovering over a hotspot is nothing new. The hand movements are only letting you do scripted things, so the interactivity is about the same level as moving a mouse over a button and clicking it.

As for driving with it... come on. There is no way a high-end racing game is going to be centered around a technology like that. It is only a peripheral, something that adds to the game experience (head-tracking, free roaming dealerships?). Even using a Wii remote or PS Move controller means you have motion sensing AND buttons to use within the game.

Notable features:

1) The usual pre-release graphics orgasm:

Turn 10's re-rendered every single vehicle, ripping the graphics engine down and building it back up. And the results are simply staggering. Cars are up from Forza 3's 400,000 polygons to over one million polygons per car. They've added real-light changes like blooming and lens flares help make the cars look like they're really in the environment.


2) The usual pre-release physics orgasm:

Not only has Turn 10 rebuilt the physics engine from scratch, they've also tried to address one of the most glaring problems with Forza 3, the tires. That's why, for enthusiasts anyway, the most important addition to the game is going to be the tire physics. Turn 10 worked to completely redo the modeling completely redone thanks to a partnership with Pirelli. The tire company let them inside their testing system to give the game a soup-to-nuts data download and allow them to directly input it into the game.


3) Three ways to use kinect:
- Virtual walk-arounds of every car with Jeremy Clarkson
- MarioKart Wii mode, where acceleration and braking are automated and you steer with your hands
- Head tracking.

4) More online community features.


No mention of weather or new steering wheels. Either way, I'm looking forward to it, I've always liked the Forza series.

Have you seen pictures of the new "wheel"? Seriously, why won't MS just support Logitech/PC compatible wheels? The console is really missing out by not doing so. I almost regret not getting a PS3 because of this, but I had way too much fun with friends and the PGR series. However, MadCatz is supposedly releasing a new wheel for the the Forza 4 release, and hopefully it's an improvement on the current one which I have at the moment.

Agreed, there is no way I can justify spending hundreds on a wheel like that. I would love to have one, no doubt, but just simply cannot justify that much of an expense for a console wheel.

Apart from the Logitechs though, the DFGT is probably the best-priced for quality around...

I'll definitely be downloading it, then. The trailers have made it look amazing--only thing missing so far is the Lotus T125. :p I'm going to be getting the game anyway, though I may wait for the holidays in case somebody gets it for me, so this'll probably help to tide me over until then. :D

Had a quick go. Enjoyable and it looks great.

So what's Forza like in the full version? Can you just pick a fast Ferrari and jump straight into a race of your choosing or do they make you go down a career path to buy cars etc?

I managed some nice drifts in the Ferrari, even with the stick controller which I normally suck at using. I like the menus and music too.

I noticed the advert was made up mostly of pre-generated videos and hardly any gameplay (with no 'actual gameplay shown' blurb on the bottom either)... is there a big difference between the sheen of Autovista (that actually doesn't look THAT much better than GT5's premium cars) and in-game racing graphics-wise?

Forza 3 had 'Free Play' mode available from the start, which allowed you to pick any car, go to any track, and race under pretty much whatever settings you wanted. I'd imagine the system will be much the same in Forza 4.

i wish i could afford a Xbox. Forza looks like a great series.

played it at a friends. the menus are very slick, and it is very fun to drive.

The music was terrible, there was maybe 1 or 2 songs that were OK, but the selection was so limited I found myself either turning it off, or streaming music from my laptop.

I turned the in-race music off almost immediately, but I left the menu songs on. You didn't like Roadside (first of the two links)? :|

My biggest gripe about the Forza 4 demo is that there's no option to turn the in-race music off. I had to mute my TV to enjoy it. Physics are great apart from that. My only concern is the way the stats are balanced--the 458 Italia really has a 9.8 on speed?

I like tracks more than cars and there's not enough new stuff in that respect for me to buy this new version. I still have a lot accomplish Forza 3 (and 2!).

Give me 600 tracks and 22 cars instead :D

And yes, the music in the demo sucked big time.

I´m so waiting for friday!! Forza 4 seems like the game I had hoped it to be - an evolution in just about every aspect from already brilliant FM3.

Drove the first 5 races in the "world tour" in a Citroen C1, low power, but acctually quite a fun car. All aids off except for automatic gears (too clumsy with the controller), and suggested line for braking (new tracks, although, you can brake much later than suggested). Damage set to highest level.

The opponents where mostly to easy to beat (winning all but round1 of hockenheim - mostly due to me over estimating the front end grip in turn 2, ending up on the grass, won round2). Also, i won a few cars during those races too, but i guess the "easy" start to the game is to hook all the players in :p

Seems to be good in the "fun" departement though :up:

I saw a review that suggests the races are easy to begin with but get more difficult in the second half of the career.

I traded in F12011 and picked this up.

Just did exactly the same thing, sucks that I lost $35 on F1 2011 (bought for $60, traded in for $25) but I am sure to be playing Forza 4 much more than F1 2011, and will also be having fun instead of getting annoyed.

Is it true that the engine sounds are better on Forza 4 than Forza 3? Most of the engine sounds on 3 were disappointing to me, I have read that 4 has much more realistic sounds.

Now I just have to wait until 6:30pm when I get home to play.
