Scoring Rules Question

I need some clarification about rules for counting which finishes counted towards the championship. They started out in 1950 with the best 4 finishes, and progressed to something like the best x in each half of the season and finally to everything counts.
Also, in the CC they used to only count one car, then went for 2?
Anyway, if someone could give me the Readers Digest version, I would be much indebted.
Thanks
BTW, I recently switched from Netcrash to Micro$oft and found out that the smileys do things. So be sure to include some  in your replies.

1954-6 Best 5 results
1957 Best 4 results
1958 Best 6 results
1959 Best 5 results
1960 Best 6 results
1961-2 Best 5 results
1963-5 Best 6 results
1966 Best 5 results
1967 Best 5 results from races 1-6 plus best 4 from races 7-11
1968 Best 5 results from races 1-6 plus best 5 from races 7-12
1969 As 1967
1970 Best 6 results from races 1-7 plus best 5 from races 8-13
1971 As 1967
1972 As 1968
1973-4 Best 7 results from races 1-8 plus best 6 from races 9-15
1975 Best 7 results from races 1-8 plus best 5 from races 9-14
1976 Best 7 results from races 1-8 plus best 7 from races 9-16
1977 Best 8 results from races 1-9 plus best 7 from races 10-17
1978 As 1976
1979 Best 4 results from races 1-7 plus best 4 from races 8-15
1980 Best 5 results from races 1-7 plus best 5 from races 8-14
1981-90 Best 11 results
1991- All results count
And in the Constructors Championship they changed the scoring rules in 1979 - from then on all top 6 finishes counted towards the points total, but the same season total rules apply.

1950-1959: No points for sixth place, but one point for fastest lap.
1950-1960: 8 points for a win.
1961-1990: 9 points for a win.
1991-present: 10 points for a win.
The CC started in 1958. As far as I can tell, only one car per team counted at first, with no points counting for the Indy 500 from 1958-1960. Starting in 1979, both cars started scoring points towards the CC, and all results counted.

1) As I recall, in the 60's, constructors points went to a chassis/engine combination, (e.g. Cooper Climax, Cooper Maserati, Cooper Ferrari, were three different constructors). I further recall that many publications used to get this wrong, and forget about the points scored by the less common combination, or wrongly ascribe them to the chassis manufacturer.
At some point along the way, this rule must have been changed. Or has it? I just checked out a couple of refs for 1984: Autocourse has Arrows scoring 6 points, Mike Lang's "Grand Prix" has Arrows-BMW 3, Arrows-Ford 3. Who is right?
2) I have never seen any constructors championship table which includes Indy cars. So presumably Indianpolis used to count for the drivers championship only (did it?). In which case, in 1958, 59 and 60 there were actually different numbers of rounds in the two championships (though Vitesse's 'best of' figures did apply to both).
3) Constructors never used to get the 'fastest lap' point, only drivers.

Thats a good question. I'd imagine it was something covered in the Concord agreement, which disallowed privateers and "customer" chassis(?).
Wasn't it 90 or 91 when Porsche made their ill fated attempt to return to F1 and were dumped halfway through the season by the team?

Welcome to TNF Neil!
Seeing as you've brought this up, can I direct everyone's attention to Egon Thurner's thread about the 1957 French GP:
http://www.atlasf1.c...&threadid=23785
As it develops, you'll see there is a discussion about this point: it appears that what we have all taken as gospel may not necessarily be so. I did revive the thread last week, but I think people were probably distracted by other events ...
