I just saw (part of) a re-run of Herbie The Love Bug (is that the correct title?).
Can anyone tell me the track or tracks used in the filming of that movie?
The early one, "Rattlersnake Raceway" I think they called it, looked to be surrounded by desert in all directions, but it might have been trick photography, pointing the camera in one direction only.
Not that the later ones (or the same one?) looked to be in what you'd call a rain forest...
And are there any SCCA experts of the era who can name any of the cars and drivers involved in the "races"?

Isn't Rattlesnake Raceway the track where Jim Hall's Chaparral was based in Texas ? There is a story of a snake finding his way (unintentionally !) in the cockpit of a Chaparral driver during a test session.
I don't know the movie Barry, can you tell me more about it ?

I remember that villain's car (yellow?) was an Apollo 3500 GT, one of the most beautiful American sports cars of 60's. But I don't know if Apollo had any real racing history.

yes, rattlesnake raceway was the chapparal test trrack, not to be confused with the current rattlesnake raceway, a dirt oval in nevada.

FEV: you must be the only person on this board who hasn't heard of, let alone seen, The Love Bug.
Quick plot summary: plucky American Volkswagen Beetle defeats dastardly British car dealer (hammed up by David Tomlinson). Car's "driver" also gets the girl, of course!
Lots of details about the film at Movie Database:
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0064603
Location is given as Monterey County, so presumably the track is Laguna Seca? As to cast, a certain Andy Granatelli makes an appearance but the only other name I thought I recognised from the list was Bob Drake. I'm no SCCA buff though ...
Also noticed that the writer's name is Gordon Buford - now there's a familiar surname!! Any relation, I wonder?

Vitesse 2,
No it's only that my slow brain did not make the connection between The Love Bug and its french name "Un Amour de Coccinelle" ! I can even say that this movie along with Derek Daly's great performance at the start of the 1980 Monaco GP are my two oldest "racing" souvenirs !!
