O.T. (perchance)- Car

As people visiting the Paddock may've noticed (from a thread on Cannibalism) I'm soon becoming a Godfather. No, not Mario Puzzo type.;) I shall be expeecting that some of my infatuation with GP rubs off on my Godson.

Now, I'm considering a purchase of diecast model to get things started when he gets old enough, and that time shall come sooner than one expects... So, I want a historic GP car that looks fast (that's a criterion? I hear you say) and has a significant place in the history. And is beautiful, of course.

Before I get myself into the whole deal, I'm asking you all for opinions and reflections to help me out. First, my choice would be either Maserati 250F in its original 1954 form (prefferably with trident in the intake) with all those louvres or the Lotus 49B in Rob Walker's livery.

Though my own personal favourite car is also the M23 McLaren, why not a Wolf indeed? Preferably the Mk 1 type, even if I have to admit that I actually liked the Mk2 when it raced, and thought it was pretty!

The Wolf has also the advantage of being one of the last unsponsored cars!

I'd go for the Walker 49B - last privateer winner, handsome car and a significant driver. Plus, of course, the original car still exists - saw it at Goodwood this year, looking just like it did in 1968!

Or the W154 ... or the T35 ... or ....

Bobbo- You don't like Mr. Monaco, do You?;) Well, I thought 49B because one can spin a few yarns around it- obviously Lotus (Chapman, Clark), Rob Walker (with inevitable Moss, and one cannot go about mentioning Maestro leaving out Fangio), and least but not last- I quite liked ol' Graham, the gentlemanly air about his appearance (and one doesn't win 5 Monaco GPs without being a hell of a driver)...

Actually, I just have s soft spot in my heart (and head!!!;);) ) for independents, underdog and the like.

In all honesty, I think that Mr. Hill was one of the GREATEST drivers of the 1960's (along with DAN THE MAN, Jim Clark, John Surtees and Sir Stirling as my favorites) and deserves every and all allocades offered.

Still, I would love to see "Seppi" honored!!;)

Well, it's been a while since I went OT, and it's time to rectify that. Leafing through Hodges' book, I came accross Sigma car. Are there any other pictures around? Has anyone even tried to race it?

BTW, thanx DMJ- Your suggestions and links came in very handy. Come to think of it, if I were going purely by aesthetic guidelines, I'd go with that P57 (Dutch GP) or Eagle. There's that great still in 'Cruel Sport' of Hill in that race. That is the type of 'message' I would try to convey with model. Or I might go with something freaky like Arrows A2 or Brabham BT45. BTW, was that white colour-scheme ever used in races?
