I would like to know if John Watsons Penske, wich won the Austrian GP, 1976, is an original Penske design or is a March development. I know that it was common at the time (Hesketh did it), but i cant remember if it was the same with Penske Team. Thanks in advance folks!

AFAIK the PC3 was a March development (or a rebuild); the PC4 was a Penske design. After the PC1, the March 751 and the following PC3 were more or less stop-gaps.

You know who design it? It looks a lot like a Indy Maclaren, doesnt it? Maybe Gordon Coppuck has something to do with it? Or was he still with Maclaren f1?

Yep, Geoff Ferris allright. He designed the PC1, PC3 (though it was probably March-based) and the PC4 as well as the PC6 Indycar. In 1977, the Penskes were sold to ATS; the 1978 ATS HS1 was said to be based on the Penske and designed by Robin Herd of... March.
There seems to be a lot of influence from March to Penske and vice-versa!

ATS bought March's FOCA rights, space in the factory, and some of
Robin Herd's time... Wonder if there were still any March or March-like bits
on the '78 ATS?

Penske’s American designer Don Cox came over to the UK & developed the PC3 design with Geoff Ferris, based on the March but with the PC1 rear end, according to DCN’s History of the GP Car.Originally posted by Frank de Jong
