With groups 1 and 2 out of the way I can report that Ascari, Rosberg, Siffert and Nannini are safely into round two. Spare a thought for poor Peter Gethin and John love however who only polled 1 vote each. Also a game attempt from Beltoise, however too little too late.

Now, onto Group 3, a trickybunch of drivers this, I can forsee a lot of debate. As always please leave your comments below.

1.Vittorio Brambilla
2.Froilan Gonzalez
3.Mika Hakkinen
4.Jacky Icxx

I'm the man who voted Gethin. I hope Ickx has more luck this round.

I voted for Jacky Ickx. A truly universal racing driver. Le Mans, Nürburgring, Paris-Dakar... :)

This drivers tournament is a fun concept. The early results of this group sure are interesting, with a 2 time World Champion in danger of missing the cut in the first round. It seems poor Mika is being penalized for being dull. For the record, I did vote for Hakkinen, it's hard to argue with 2 titles.

I can argue with it, but I think the main thing is that we may be voting for the one we know best from our favourite era... and this bunch doesn't have anyone whose aura exceeds the 'one we know best from our favourite era'...

I voted for Mika, the 2 WC speaks for itself.

Well, well, well... I'm glad to see Pampas Bull gaining on Jacky.

I thought this was an F1 based forum in which case Mika's record kills anything Ickx has done.

I bet names such as Juha Kankanen or Don Gartlis dont come up.

Shame for losing Gonzales in such an early stage. However, I voted for Ickx, too...

It has to be Hakkinen. Apart from his two WDCs he proved himself more than capable in other racing series including F3 and that famous Porsche Cup race in Monaco. All evidence points to him having been competitive in any type of car.
