salmson racer

Can someone help to identify this car

- it's on a Salmson web-site so I am, not unreasonably, assuming it to be a Salmson - but does anybody have any further info on what it is?
Also can anyone point me in the right direction for finding out more about the straight eight voiturettes (1928/29?) that were probably an influence on Jano's 8c/Tipo B motor?

I'd guess the pictures show the prototype of the racing trainers they built for the Union Sportive Automobile in 1946. I've never seen a picture of one, but Alessandro will probably know!

Armand Girod bought the straight 8s when Salmson closed down the racing department and ran them for some years, gaining some minor placings. I have two contradictory sources: Georgano says he bought them in 1930, Venables says 1932. What is certain is that in 1934 he came second in one at Picardy and won the 1100cc class in the GP de France - neither race could be considered major though! Venables' "Racing 1500s" has some technical data.

It is in fact the 2L 4cylinder Salmson built in 1946 as Richard says. A series of 20 was planned for mono-marque races to be organised by Un. Sp. Aut. supporting a similar series of Delages 3L. Both plans did not materialize and only two Salmson were built. One or both raced once at the Coupe Mazaud, the voiturette race supporting the GP du Salon at the Bois de Boulogne on 06.10.1946.
