HELP! Book need "Great Encyclopedia of F1" - special edition

Hi folks .. i come to you in need. About a year ago i saw a tiny ad in a newspaper for the book "The Great Encyclopedia of F1". Now I know i can still get it but that ad was for a special edition with better paper, suade bound ... the full works .. a full "presentation" piece.

NOW I CAN'T FIND IT. The ad was from a place called Bookspeed in the UK i think .. though i am not sure it was them that advertised that special edition.

Now one last thing .. i may have this confused with the glorious "60's motor racing" which is presented really flash. See i couldbe wrong.

Anyway ... can anyone help?? Doug Nye i am looking at you.

Well as fear is I know the "The Great Encyclopedia of F1" was never printed in a Special Edition. The presentation of the book is in good paper and in the book is split into two books with a big folder for the two books. So I think you might right in saying it could be the 60's motor racing.

I think you should have a look in it before you buy it. I found it very disapointing and I'm glad I didn't buy it then offerd.

Yeah i've onl;y seen the cover and it didn't grab me ... look "autocoursey" ..... what are your gripes?

The Menard book is fun and readable, has nice circuit diagrams, lap
charts, photos and car paintings, but it's badly translated (and
occasionally untranslated), has a lot of factual errors, and at
least in the first printing managed to duplicate the text of four pages
(about Ligier) and omit four, whilst still keeping the right pictures
there.

I get the impression it was rushed out in the English edition, because
there's just no way it was proofread properly, or fact-checked by
anyone who knew much about the sport.

That said, I actually quite like it purely because it's such an
idiosyncratic one-man effort. I just don't regard it as definitive on
anything!

It's typically being sold in the UK for 50 quid, which is, what, three
lousy Hilton biographies of contemporary midfield nomarks. The lap
charts are worth that (spot-checks against races I have other lap charts
for in Autocourse, Autosport etc. seems to find no basic errors).

The Book by my believe do not give any new information, it has very short team biographies. It has some nice photos for sure, but most of them have been see before. I find the price on sale at 55£ still is way to much. If I should recommend something I would be Doug Nye's Autocourse’s History of the Grand Prix Cars Vol. 1 1950 to 1965 and Vol. 2 1966 to 1991. They provide a lot of information, cut away drawings and a lot more. Book like them is a best buy, they are expensive now, but still worth any penny.

The Great Encyclopedia of F1 most certainly do not match any good Grand Prix Book, it’s a rush and shallow job, presented with some nice car illustration, but they are not worth 55£.
