I was 10, but I do remember clearly that beautiful, mean looking black UOP Shadow driven by Jean Pierre Jarier and smoking everybody, until something happened, i dont remeber what, and was forced to retire. While everybody was cheering Pace's win, i was still amazed by the pace of that misterious black car, with those beatifull graphics on.
So, there goes my question: why they could not keep their game so high for the rest of the season? And what was their secret to be soooo fast?

Hi there

Jarier suffred from a Metering unit failure only 7 laps for a certain win. a great shame, but his teammate Tom Pryce won Race of Champion at Brands Hatch in March.

Jarier also took Pole in Argentine, but was prevented from taking part in the race due to a Crown-wheel and Pinion problem. which oc'cured on the warm-up lap.

In 1978 Jarier was once more on his way to a clear victory in the Canadian Grand Prix then his JPS Lotus 79 let him down.

Best Regards

Shadow seemed to have a similar fate to March, early season success followed by lack of development. Thus a steady slide down the grid.

Plus Jarier was a lot faster than a lot of people gave him credit for. His
speed was raw as it was not campanioned by any tactical thought that I am
aware of.
