I've lost my chicken records for the moment but from memory... (DC)

Here are the results of the 1919 Grand Prix des Poulets held at the Circuite de la Route Traversee.. (HE)

The chicken was CK/F1/6065 originally sold to ... (AB)

Actually the chicken was genetically modified, cloned from a wishbone left from dinner at 23 Railway Cuttings... (DN)

Here are pictures of 25 Australian ducks (RB)

Masten Gregory once ate chicken for dinner (JF)

Pedro Rodriguez once ate chicken for dinner (CJ)

Chris Amon ate chickens before, after, and in 1970 during, races. (DK)

(there followed several dozen responses in similar vein)

My friend Luis Phillippe (etc, etc) has been wondering about this for many years (FM)

According to Autosport 27 October 1949... (RC)

Let's have a poll to settle this once and for all (WH)

Here is a list of 2,527 chickens who crossed the road in the years 1950-83 (RB)

Don't forget the heroic chickens of the 1940s (AS)

It was attached by a bungee cord to a gate on the other side (RA)

If it's not too off topic , can I raise the question of the cat that crossed the road in Japan on September 29 1972? (MF)

Actually it was a bantam (DMcK)

If it's not stating the bleedin' obvious, to get to the other side (BB)

Any resemblance to actual chickens, living or dead, is purley coincidental.

I like the bantam one best, don't know why. I think I'm glad I'm not on there but I think if I were it'll be something like:
"the chicken is now alive & well, working as a engineer in Chickenville"

I've checked various American Social Security records and can confirm that this chicken is definitely still alive (RJ)

I can also add the results of the 1920 and 1922 Grands Prix du Poulet. The 1921 race was cancelled due to fowlpest (source: Belgian newspaper Les Sports) (MC)

What was the reasoning behind the Chicken-Fox Racing ? (Meg)

Chicken was runner-up in the South Dakota Modified Jalopies Division in 1952. I have his birthdate somewhere.. (JT)

What about this:

I have two birthdates for the chicken, can anyone tell me which one is correct? Also, is it pronounced Chi-cken or Chick-en? (BL)

If I may add a personal story, the chicken actually crossed the road while I was with my father on the parade lap of the Watkins Glen Grand Prix in 1949... (MA)

In my latest book, "The life and times of The Chicken"... (KL)

While searching for something else, I found a report of a match race between The Fox and The Chicken. It seems there was only one finisher. (TK)

I think Stirling Moss mentions this in "My Life and Chickens". Of course I could be wrong ™ (Wolf)

I'm hoping to race in Historic Formula Chicken later in the year (GC)

I met the chicken in the pits at Adelaide (Vanwall)

The chicken has the right type of licence, but it should be mounted under its wing, not on top of it (MiFi)

I have taken several hundred pictures of the remains of the places where the Tasmanian chicken crossed the road. Very sad .... (Bernd)

Those who have been to New Zealand, or flown by New Zealand Air, will of course be familiar with the Chicken Desk at every airport, where one Chicks In for a flight. I stood in utter confusion for five minutes at Christchurch Airport once listening to a Chicken girl describing how the concours was v. quiet at the moment, but "You should see it in the summer - this entire Hall is jam-packed with Chickens, with all their luggage, you just can't move for Chickens..."....

There is also a wonderful little book around - the autobiography of the first flying chicken - his name, of course, was Gregory Peck.

IIRC wings on sidepods were banned by the FIP (Federation International de Poulets) after several other chickens made a protest against the controversial "twin chicken" Type 88 which was presented for scrutineering at the RCC British Road Crossing Grand Prix in 1981.

The modern chicken is just as exciting to watch crossing the road as were the chickens of the 50's and 60's. In fact, if you don't like the technology involved in developing the modern chicken then why not just go back in time to when pheasants were plucked. (NC)

I don't know anything about these chickens but I'd like to thank you for posting those wonderful chicken pictures. I didn't even know they had feathers back then. (NC)

Speaking of the 1949 Grand Prix at Watkins Glen, I notice that the chicken on row 2 in a picture of the 1951 RCC British Road Crossing Grand Prix is wearing number 3. I thought that Arthur Fowl had that number in 1951 yet the caption to the picture says it's Henri Poulet in his Cockerel special - can you confirm? (1/2 of TNF)

Are you sure it's 1951, it looks like 1952 to me and I'd swear that picture is taken at the Monaco l'Coque Sportif because IIRC it was raining on race day at the 1951 BRCGP although of course the picture could have been of the formation lap when it was only drizzling, but if you look closely in the background you can see a picture of Don Capps with some chick which means it's probably at Monaco, but does anyone know if it rained there in 50 or 53? (Other 1/2 of TNF and some of the first 1/2 as well)

I remember that day well, I was moving the chickens and I'd misplaced my entire collection of Fowl Breeders Weekly so there I was with my wife when I had the once-in-a-lifetime chance to talk with Junior Clucker. Now Clucker may have been many things, but ....................

I have dozens of rare and unpublished photographs of the 1919 Grand Prix des Poulets, but I haven't worked out how to post photos on TNF yet. (just about everybody)

PS: according some French sources (Le Poulailler - newspaper + La Ferme - weekly magazine) don't mix those races with "Le Prix Royal du Coq" included in the "Week of Le Coq" (in Flemish De Haan, 15 km near Ostende (in Flemish Oostende): Female Rally, Flying km sprint (in the Beach), hillclimb and on the Easter Monday the Prix Royal.

Only two editions: 1913 and 1914 (two days before the declaration of the War). The planned 1919 edition would be replaced by a cyclist and a wheelbarrow races. It was the first real competition of a Parisian future ace: Jean-Pierre 8000, aged only 11 (he was in the wheelbarrow).
