Ever since I saw(on Speedvision) Emanuelle Pirro spin his Auto-Union into it's parking place at the Festival of Speed I've been wanting to go and I think this is the year.
What is the layout there? Does general Admission give one access to the Paddock? Are grandstand seats essential? If so, where?
Is it like the Monterey Historics, i.e. already too late to find reasonable accomodations?
Any advice or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

To answer your questions.

What is the layout there?

Map link didn't work :(.

Basically it is a fairly straghtforward sprint up the fron drive of Goodwood House.

Most info is on the Goodwood Web Site

Does general Admission give one access to the Paddock?

Yes.

Are grandstand seats essential?

In the past No, but with the large numbers of people going today then probably Yes. I went last year on the Friday (Free Tickets ;)) and it was okay, but people I know who went Sat & Sun said it was too busy and wished they had Grandstand tickets.

If so, where?

Anywhere really, as you can see on the map there aren't any real corners. In front of Goodwood house is a good place to be as the drivers 'showboating' (burn-outs etc) goes on there.

Is it like the Monterey Historics, i.e. already too late to find reasonable accomodations?

Close-by, probably, but there should still be a lot a short drive away.

To be honest, the main reason for going to the Festival IS the paddocks. The freedom to walk about amongst great machinery and get get close up to everything is brilliant. "Famous Motor Sport Personality" spotting is a worthwhile game to play as well.

I've been every year since 1994 (except 1995 when I unwisely booked a foreign holiday that clashed with Goodwood) and I can safely say that every single event has been different with very little repetition of vehicles on display.
