Hello Everyone

Well, is anyone around here still playing GP2? It is afterall a fantastic game. I recently dug out my old copy (more accurately I found it by accidnet down the back of a bookshelf) and booted it up. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's no GPL, but it's an absolute blast. If you can forgive the shaky visuals. Solid as a rock gameplay wise.

If anyone is still playing it, perhaps we could start up and Atlas PBEM GP2 championship? I nice leisurly racing series for those who can only play for a few minuits at a time. What dya reckon?

Yeah, GP2 was a great game. I used to play it a lot, and I even raced in an internet league. It's much more fun than playing against the AI. Check http://www.lfrs.net .

Absolutely!!! With all the carsets, carshapes and circuits that are available, I still have many seasons to run.

Where else could I drive my own Connew in a 1972 Championship series????

My only regret is that people seem to have stopped drawing up new tracks. I wish I had time and ability to do it myself.

Re-re-re-reinstalled it and re-re-re-redownloaded a bunch of tracks this week :p Still have a Win98 (read: Ice Age) computer though. Will get new one soon, and then I'll need this to figure out how to get it working on WinXP: http://www.gprix2.co...onnt/index.html

That's not good enough.. :| I haven't had any problems with the sound. Or rather.. I haven't got that far at many times. Sometimes the game hangs and crashes directly at the startup (division by zero, or some error msg like that). If I, against all odds, make it to the pits, the game crashes in a similair fashion there with the same error msg before I have had any chance to drive.

Can't find any descriptions at all for that error in XP..

Is it possible to play GP2 in a LAN, like GP4? Or with direct cable connection using serial/parallel ports?
I have an old notebook in which I can not install GP4 due to the lack of processor/video requirements, and a friend with an old desktop in the same "ice age" hardware.
Hot seat is fun but race against each other is better, I think...
Many thanks in advance,

GP2!!! Yeeeaaahhh!! :stoned:

Yeah I used to play it all the time, but I got tired of it 'cos

a) You cant chose your tyre compound
b) The weather never changes
c) The AI cars choose really stupid fuel strategies (Like 1-stopping around Barcelona) Which meant I often won far too easily simply by 2-stopping.

Are there any patches for the above problems?

And...

What's GP4 like? Any good?

Cheers,

Nath

I never had any experience with GP2, but I do have many fond recollections of my time spent with GP3. It had a great atmosphere to it. Easily accessible too, esp. since at the time, I used to play with a keyboard, and later on, a Saitek joystick, which made me very happy because I could finally hold the steering turn to a position rather than tapping on the direction keys haphazardly hoping the nose somehow ends up points toward the apex after I'm through. But there was something about it, the way the sunlight worked, or the bitmaps, or something, but I have to say, that I have yet to find a sim which 'felt' more real in terms of a purely appearance-based perspective.

I played GP4 for sometime, but I just couldn't feel it when I was approaching the limits of the car as well as I could in EA's F1C, so I gave up on it after a few months and am currently using F1C as my modern-F1 platform of choice. :)

Sandeep.

Did a 1.13.2 with keyboard in Brazil last week. Shaved a few tenths off my best lap from 1999. :D

Hey Mike, GP2 is classified as abandonware now and available at www.classic-gaming.net
and www.gprix2.com has a bunch of mods for it.

Abandonware has questionable legality. I work in the industry, and it's actualy not strictly legal.

GhostR, I'll take your word fot it. I was under the impression that Classic-Gaming offered abandonware that the publishers no longer offer for retail. Exactly how does that work and who can determine if its abandonware or not? Was the term coined by the software companies or the various webpages that "offer" older dos applications? I guess the best thing to do is hunt down those older titles either on Ebay or at the discount bin. I got GPL for $20 at the local Games Shack's bargain bin and remember paying about $60 for GP2 when it first came out!
