Oh my no. I'm afraid it petered out around the same time that the car did.

Oh, it's not just me then, Wiki' helping themselves to other peoples data, who would have thought (my dispute is on going after two years!!!))

I'm well aware that this is venturing off topic slightly but I think it's a useful aside.

Allen's material was uploaded by a rogue user. Proper editors cite their sources and do not copy word for word. However we sometimes get idiots who think that copying and pasting is an acceptable substitute for hard work.

If there's anything I can do to help with Wikipedia-related copyright issues then feel free to get in touch.

I think we've spoken about the Supporters' Club before on here in the past - I was a member and remember it well.

Barry, who ran the car for Soukry at his two F5000 appearances? Was it your team, or his? I've never been quite sure. Thanks.

Nice to see a couple of new pictures, donshut!

Just think Barry, a re-kindling of the supporters club could aid the funding of the return of the Connew!!

Good write-up on the Connew "episode" by Mischa Bijenhof in the current Nr.18 issue
of the Dutch Formule 1 magazine.
Mischa was speaking to Barry Boor.

It is with a certain amount of anticipation (though not too much) that I can report the possibility of Peter obtaining both a dummy DFV and an empty DG.300 gearbox casing in the not too distant future.

Both these items are by no means certain to materialise but there is more of a chance than there has been at any time in the past, oooh, 40 years. I hope I'll have some news for you soon.

Following a discussion some time ago with Simon Hadfield, his opinion was contrary to our view. He reckoned it could be made to run again.

However, the amount of ££££s required is way beyond anything we could raise.

Realistically I am sure there is some tired on their last rebuild DFVs out there, there defenitly is plenty of worn out DG300s that are past race use. So it is not impossible for some kind donor to make the car at least a goer. This thread and Barrys story alone has created a lot of interest. Though to get raceworthy equipment is a different kettle of fish. But a car that starts and runs and can be driven quietly around the track should not be impossible. Obviously it will cost a lot more to get it there though with the right donations that should be less of a drama.
Though even just a dummy engine and trans is a lot better than nothing, At least the car can then be displayed. And possibly be got going at a later date.
Best of luck whatever.

It's probably the wrong target group for this project, but it might be worthwhile looking at kickstarter.

It would be fantastic to just see the car back in one piece and on its wheels. It was such a sleek car particularly by the standards of the time (Lotus 72 excepted.) When one considers the March designs of the time and the hideous Amon and Maki cars it would have been easier for Peter Connew to simply design a metal box to hang the DFV from. I first saw a picture of the car in Doug Nye's book on Grand prix cars 1965-85 and the thought of such a project actually taking to a Grand Prix grid really caught my imagination. I stumbled upon Barry's fascinating first hand account of how it all came together and remember being moved to contact him to say how great it would be to see the Connew at least on show if not running.

I feel it's time to let you all know where we are with this.

As I mentioned earlier, there is a possibility of obtaining dummies of both engine and gearbox, which would, in theory, enable Peter to get the Old Girl at least sitting on her wheels again.

However, for the last year or more Peter has had other matters to deal with which I am not in a position to divulge but which I am pleased say are not medical. Hopefully these matters will be resolved within the next few months, after which he may be able to concentrate on other projects.

What must be borne in mind is that Peter is still a working man, despite being almost 67, and his work at Fords does take up a lot of his time and even more of his energy.

The idea of mounting a collection is very appealing, to me, but given his determination to do everything himself, I don't really think that he would be too keen on hand outs, however well intentioned, and in deed useful, they may be.

I will keep you up to speed if there is anything worth relating.

Just a passing thought from the hard of thinking; did someone not make GRP copy DFVs umpteen years ago? Perhaps a loan DFV or Hewland could produce a mould?

Now Barry will tell me that is their plan I dare say.

Fantastic footage! By happy coincidence I purchased the dvd last week for the embarrasing sum of £4 and was delighted to see the Connew given such coverage. It really was a good looking and seemingly well put together car and it was great to see it setting off with the field from the grid of a World Championship Grand Prix.

It was great footage to see it on track. I met Peter Connew as a 16 year old when Big John was testing the Surtees TS7 at Brands Hatch. Living near to the Edenbridge factory I asked if I could be given a guided tour- instead I was invited to the test day. It was an amazing experience.

Probably yes but can't be sure as it was over 40 years ago. I called you when I was in Anglesey 2 years ago visiting Ynys Gorad Goch, you might remember?

I am more than delighted to be able to tell you that Peter Connew is now in possession of a DFV engine.....  Or at least, a big pile of aluminium castings that hopefully can be joined together to create a replica of said engine.

This has come about thanks to a gentleman named Karl Foulkes-Halbard who runs the Filching Manor Motor Museum, the website of which you can find here: http://campbellcircu...w&id=4&Itemid=4

There is a possibility of a Hewland DG.300 gearbox casing in the offing too and I can tell you that I haven't seen Peter so enthusiastic about getting the old girl back on wheels again since.... well, EVER.

I'll post of picture of the castings when I get time to download my Revival etc images, having only just returned home to Malta an hour and a half ago.

Here are the pieces laid out before I loaded them into my hire car in Sussex:

dfv.jpg

Unfortunately, when we laid them out in Peter's lounge (!) there seem to be one or two pieces missing but now that I am back here I'm going to have to leave the matter with P.C. Hopefully Karl down at Filching Manor will be able to locate the missing bits.

It's missing all the uppy downy bits that fit inside.

Even if it's only for static display it would be great to see the Connew back on four wheels again...keep up the good work  :)

Or maybe into the spare tyre well?

It was all in the boot and there is nowhere for it to have gone. When I returned the hire car, the boot was utterly empty.
