Unfortunately, I won't be able to make this one, David! (That is a damn long trip from South London - but I hope I can manage it again before too long.)

We have re-arranged things to give you a day longer to get here. The meeting has been re-scheduled to Wednesday 14 Jan. :)

Wednesday 18 February.

Latest Northern UK TNF meeting is (as has been pointed out elsewhere) on the same night as the Southern one. But our pub this time, the Grapes at Croston, is in the Good Beer Guide :stoned:

David,

That's a fine looking boozer, it must be said; like 2F001, I'm a namby-pamby southerner so will be joining the other namby-pambies at Laleham that evening.

Have a good meeting

Best wishes

PdeRL

Northern TNF meeting last night had me, Roger Clark, David Beard. Surely there are some more TNFers north of Brum ?? Beer was, if anyone's interested, Cains Bitter, Everards Tiger, Taylor Landlord, Boddies (if anyone's desperate), plus the usual Lag--r for the ladies...

A number of issues cropped up, namely what was a "Rejo", entered in various 60s Sportscar Clubbie events ? Next, anyone, esp 2F-001, remember who was the Silverstone Grid Starter in the 60s ? Finally, for now, can anyone give us info on BRM's type-numbering system ?

Clubmans car built by Rod Easterling in London. "Some half dozen built", presumably each with a different type number as the last was the Mk 6, the only rear-engined one. Info from Georgano p578, which also has a picture of the Mk2 at Brands in an 1172 Formula race: it bears a passing resemblance to a Cooper Monaco.

Gosh, you chaps have more faith in my memory than I do!
But the name "Evans" comes to mind as a Silverstone startline conductor... Ken, Keith maybe... but perhaps that was a bit later than the Sixties.

Everard's Tiger... now there's a good old Leicester beer. Didn't know that was still brewed. I think we used to drink Everard's Beacon, 'cos it was cheaper.

Pre-war driver Kenneth Evans was indeed official starter at Silverstone for some years - I thought only for the big races, but maybe I'm wrong about that

When my father first started taking me to Silverstone, in the very late '60s and early '70s, we only went to the big meetings - Express Trophy, GP practice, Martini 2-litre G6 (that wet one) etc. So that fits. Gosh, I surprised even myself!

Not the man we were thinking of...but we thought of you when we saw the name.

During the evening we tried to make contact with our friends in the South, using the new fangled "cellular telephones", but found that the technology has barely reached that part of Lancashire. When we finally did find some sort of signal, we found that the Southerners hadn't matstered the technology to the extent of turning their phones on. We wanted to mount a little quiz, hoping that David's stack of 1960s Silverstone clubbie programmes would give us an unfair advantage.

Good heavens! I didn't know of this...

There are, however, a surprising number of Pashley's in motorsport - considering it is a relatively obscure name (from Yorkshire, I'm told).

There was, in recent times, a pair of rallying brothers; also, someone racing in Monoposto formula, and my namesake Tony who is a dedicated and accomplished driver and builder of bike-engined hillclimb single-seaters under the Marengo banner. I get email enquiries about him from time to time - from far-flung corners; the senders are less surprised that they have the wrong man, than by me actually having a clue about what they are asking!

Next Northern TNF meeting is definitely on, this Weds March 24, Eagle & Child Bispham Green. David Beard, Roger Clark and I definite, any other takers ?? Pub is pretty easy to get to from the M6, so quite convenient for any TNFers in Lancs/Liverpool/Manchester/Cheshire areas. Good beer, good chat, no doubt some old programmes/books to peruse !!
