Harry Zweifel ran with a Mclaren-Oldsmobile Formula Libre some hill climbs races during 1.966.
This Mclaren was the original M2A or the M3 F Libre ????
Zweifel with the Mclaren F Libre at the Limonest - Mont Verdun 1.966
Siffert also ran this car at the 1.968 Fribourg hill-climb.

From Eoin S.Young in his book McLaren, three M3 were buit:
one for Patsy Burt, the second for Harry Zweifel and the third for the Metro Goldwin Mayer to be used in "Grand Prix".

Bob Olthoff also drove with a Mclaren M3 (?) at the South African Series in 1.968... Chassis number ???

In his book about McLaren, Doug Nye wrote:
"Patsy Burt was an old friend of Bruce. The first M3 was for her, the chassis was realized by John Thompson. This car was finished in 15 days with a 4 l. Traco-Olds and ZF gearbox. Dr Harry Zweifel, swiss specialist of hillclimbs, inherited of the second chassis and the third and last one was bought by the MGM.".
The M3 was nicknamed "Whoosh-Bonk" by McLaren works and designed for hillclimbs and sprint races.

Like a M3A but built mostly from M1 bits. It is said to have contained some amount of the ex-MGM M3A/3 wrecked in a libre race at Silverstone [IIRC - Darlington?] the previous season. I don't know if it did.

Allen. Bob Olthoffs car was in fact M3A/3 ,the MGM car. He obtained it sometime after the Darlington crash,the photos I have show it to be not too badly damaged at that stage . Bob ran it in several guises including Brabham bodywork, He transfered the engine/transaxle assembly to and from his M1A sportscar[now in Aussie with Max Warwick. We purchased the sorry remains 4 yrs ago and with help from Patsy and Ron Smith we are rebuilding it. The Zwiefel car has not surfaced to our Knowledge but was last heard of in France in the late 70s If I knew how to post a pic I would show you folks the sketch of the chassis from Bruce Mclarens personal daybook, to my knowledge the only drwg of the cars, this built Patsys and when the MGM car was built at a later stage McLarens had to remeasure her car! How things have changed. Duncan.
