when i first examined the pile of parts that were my T35-B bugatti [chassis4948] i noticed the remains of a hand painted number on the gearbox...it was in letters about 4" high and read " PB 104"....the 4 was a typical european numeral with an open top....i never could figure what it ment as no bugatti folk had ever seen such a mark on a bug....so today as i was examining photos in ludvigsen's "porsche spyders" i noticed that on the 1953 lemans spyder/coupes that the ratios for each gear was hand lettered on the side of the transaxle...upon closer examination i was surprised to see " PB124" in large numerals painted on the opposite side of the 'box....now as 4948 was raced and maintained in germany [von morgan,pietch....] i was wondering what this mark might mean?..has anyone seen a similar mark on other german maintained gearboxes? have i missed something?...any help would be welcomed....
