I have just read on a french internet site, that Ralph Friman is the first driver to drive a formula one on the Macao circuit since the 70's.

I am very surprised, because I don't know that formula one run at Macao during the 60's and the 70's.

Does anyone have some results of these races, or other interresting information about the Formula one in Macao ?

Thanks a lot -

I think the F1 circuits of Macau mentioned on the French site were all demonstration runs, and not races. The last one before Fairman/Jordan was 1977 when Patrick Tambay did some laps in Yip's Theodore Racing Ensign N177.

The Macau Grand Prix has never been a 'Formula One' event,
but during the period where the event was a Formule Libre race, 1961-73, older Formula One cars did indeed take part, and occasionally win the event.

F2 cars, yes. Tasman Formula cars, yes.
But I can't think of any ex-F1 cars in the Macau GP

Does anyone know what cars were driven in 1978 by Jack Brabham, Mike Hailwood, Jackie Stewart, Phil Hill, Dan Gurney, Jacky Ickx, in the so called 'Race of Giants'?

That pic is not the "race of giants" - it's the Formula Atlantics in the Macau GP.

The start of the 1978 Macau GP to be precise. No F1 cars in sight but the first two rows were full of F1 drivers - Jones, Patrese, Daly & Rosberg.

I am also not aware of any old F1 car ever appearing in the actual race at Macau.

But I do love being proved wrong.

Books are sometimes still the best source, such as in this case
You need Colour and Noise - 40 Years of the Macau Grand Prix by Philip Newsome (Studio Publications Ltd 1993) ISBN 962 7460 05 2

I've found F2, F3 [since 1983 they are all F3 AFAIK], F Atlantic and F Pacific cars, but no F1 car at all... But the first post says 'since the 70ies' and perhaps we should dig a little bit more...

Browsing this forum, I found this thread and thought that some of you might be interested by the story of the Race of Giants in Macao 1978. You can find that story on my website www.jacky-ickx-fan.net as well as a few pictures.
