Does anyone have information regarding this race ? I understand that Lotus ran the 56 Turbine car in this race, driven by Fittapaldi and that he qualified well and then set the fastest lap.
I am curious if anyone has qualifying and race data for this event. Hockenheim was used for the German GP 1970 and I would like to see how the Lotus 56 times in the F5000 race compared to times recorded in the 1970 GP.

Thank you both for pointing me in the right direction.
I was intrigued by finding out how well the 56 did in the 5000 race and I was curious to know the actual times recorded by the car. In comparing the '71 qualifying time to the '70 GP grid, Fittapaldi would have qualified on Row 4 of the GP. My understanding is that the 56 was an old design that Chapman was keen to see appear sometime in '69 rather than in '71 and I wanted see how it would have faired had it been raced 1yr earlier.

Emmo qualified 2nd at Hockenheim 1971, with 2'01.2".
Had he been entered in the 1970 German GP with this turbine car which had yet reached the same level of development, he would have started from the 9th spot (5th row). Pole was to Ickx's Ferrari with 1'59.5".
Further with "if...", supposing the car being reliable, it would perhaps have finished 3rd, after Rindt and Ickx, both being out of reach for anybody else in the field.
BTW, this 1970 was the first GP I attend live. I went hitch-hiking from Paris, camped in the car park lot, ate sausage at breakfast (hmmm...) and was a little disappointed because my favorite of the time, Chris Amon, retired.
But Jochen was such a great racer !
