Hans Herrman raced the German GP with a Maserati 250F, both in 1957 & in 1958, and both had the same race number 17.
How can we know if a picture showing him at the Karussel (e.g.) wearing n°17 was taken in 1957 or in 1958 ?

Well, I'd be very surprised if the numbers were in exactly the same position in both years. In a quick search I've found two pictures, both of which seem to show the number on the nose as depicted in yours, Jimmy. One is definitely 1957 (in Eberhard Reuss' Grand Prix), the other is identified as being 1957 (in David McKinney's Maserati 250F, credited to Ferret Foto)

Was this the race when Centro Sud cars were painted with some kind of temporary paint that could be washed off later? Would have been interesting in the event of rain....

i think on the photo of REYNA the car driven by H.HERRMANN was in silver color in 1958.
like the car driven in practise by Horace GOULD.
This color as the car was distined to german driver Wofgang SEIDEL.
It was a CENTRO SUD Entry.
Nothing to say now about the color of Jo BONNIER's car.

Since the German officials were a bit strict about the rules, Bonnier had to repaint his red car into the official Swedish colours - blue and yellow. He had to do the same thing when he raced his Maserati 150S there in -56. Bonnier had his own F1-team by -58 by the way.
Herrmann drove Bonnier's other car in 1958, and it ought to have been silver since Herrmann was German. Centro Sud might have been involved in the entry, but it was a Bonnier car.

However,the team had valve and piston trouble and by race day they had only

BONNIER now has the 1957 car which SCARLATTI raced last season:
it still basically red in colour but for the race was distempered in lurid blue and yellow.
There was considerable speculation as to the effect rain might have on this colour schemes !

I don't know what kind of deal Bonnier had with Centro-Sud at Nürburgring '58. But he had his own team, his own transporter, his own Italian mechanic and owned both the cars 2524 and 2529.
