Hello,

we are a little team of hobby historic car racers from Germany. Our race car is a 1959 Ford Custom 2door (yes!).

Due to the official authorization and homologation of the European Racing Commission we need at least one historic picture which shows such a 1959 Ford (not Thunderbird) at any race.

We found out that in the years 1959, 1960 und 1961 some american teams started with such 1959 Fords at some Grand National Races. One of that teams were The Wood Brothers with their drivers Glen Wood (the founder), Junior Johnson, Bob Welborn and Jimmy Massey. Some weeks ago we asked the Wood Brothers Team to send just one picture of one of these cars to us but there was no answer.

Anonther 1959 Ford driver was Fred Harb who raced until 1961 which his old 1959er Ford at the Grand Nationals.

Holman & Moody used exclusive 1959 Thunderbirds at that time, not the 1959 Ford, in the following year the 1960 Ford Galaxie.

So, here is our entreaty request: Do you know where we can find an old picture showing one of these old 1959 Race-Fords?

Thank you so much for answering
Martin

Thank you for your answer, Henry.

I have contacted the US-galaxieclub now. I will report, if/when an answer will follow.

No, in the Fireball-Roberts homepage is no picture of a 1959 Race-Ford. As far as I know Fireball Roberts never started which a 1959 Ford.

Hi, The Brown,
There is a pic of a racing '59 Ford sedan on the second page of this site. The only pic on the whole site without a caption..........the pic just below it may be a '59, as well

Yes, Gerr. You got it. Thaaank you so much.
The pic without caption shows a part of the front end of a 59 Ford. I hope this will satisfie the European historic commission.

(The pic below it does not show a 59 Ford. Please note the 'normal' A-pillar of this car. The 59 Ford has the typical late 50s inverted A-pillar of these panoramic windscreens. Is 'inverted' the correct word in english?)

Thank you so much

Martin

In the past couple of months a new member of TNF was searching for a photo of I believe a 1957 ford in racing trim to document the car he was building to vintage race in I think England.

Well, if I have the information correct this may help as it is a replica of the Glenn Roberts NASCAR racer.

Sorry I could not seem to locate the original thread.

That car's a couple of years too early...

Now this thread is resurrected, I wonder where I found that photo?

Great picture of the 57 Ford.

In the meantime I found same days ago a picture in the book "Forty Years Of Stock Car Racing", Volume 2, years 1959-1964, by Greg Fielden. On page 113 you can see Tim Flocks 1961 Chevrolet, starting at the Virginia 500 in Martinsville VA. And in the background the honorable Mr. Fred Harb in his good old 1959 Ford. Unfortunately the picture is blurred.

Sorry I missed the year. Photograph of '59 was needed, not '57! The memory continues to slip! :

Please allow me to expand the thread and put up a couple more that have committed to the September 9th event. These are coming up from the Living Legends of Auto Racing in Daytona.

Rex White's Chevrolet, Glenn's Pontiac and hopefull Glenn's '63 Ford will be ready.

Henry
