Hi,

does anybody know how many of those two models were used on rallyes, their chassis numbers and register plates, and who used them?

I know that the Lancia factory used about 27 ou 28 cars from 1972 on, loaning two or three to the Chardonnet french team on late seventies.
But what about the privateers? Who used them and where?

The same about the Ferrari 308 GTB Gr.4, but in this case I know praticly nothing...

Thanks

There was a thread about Ferrari rally cars - http://forums.autosp...rrari AND rally - it was Charles Pozzi's team that seemed to be main entrant.

Stratoses were much more widely dispersed. The Chequered Flag ran one in the British Rally Championship in 1976/7 or so. As you mention, Chardonnet were probably the principal private team.

I'm pretty sure the magazine Auto Italiana gave good coverage to the rallies and show photos of the cars, Ferraris in particular.

http://www.fanderall.../Img198230.html - a Ferrari in French Rallycross. I would not be surprised if it has some connection to any previous rally effort.

Yes that one with the Pioneer logo, I have a small model somewhere and always loved the design of the car. Here are more designs on model cars:

The Stratos was used to good effect in Grp 5 form on the Grio and elsewhere on the tracks as well during 76.

You’ll have to excuse my ignorance here, but can anyone tell me what the Group 4 specification requirements were?

Some of the Group 4 drivers were more renowned for circuit racing, i.e. one of the Group 4 Ferrari 308s was driven by Gregor Foitek – not someone that immediately springs to mind when mention of mud-ridden forests comes up…

For instance, the 037 and Group 5 Lancia Montecarlo (piloted by Patrese amongst others, which won its class at Le Mans and came 2nd one year) had virtually nothing in common with the road car; whilst the Group 4 Montecarlo had a horizontally-mounted engine, in the same place as the road car - as opposed to the 037’s transverse engine arrangement.

Aside from Lancia and Ferrari, what other manufacturers fielded Group 4 cars?

Any education on this subject would be gratefully received – thanks!

Edited because I found the right search term for Google and got some education!

Is there a chance that I’m confusing Group 4 rally cars with Group 5 circuit cars? I know Foitek drove a GP 4 308 as the car was for sale recently.

It was Gregor Foitek father, Karl, Gregor being too young at that time :)

I have "27713" for Andruet (vinner) at Ypres in 1981. . . it is that?

Bruno
The chassis number of Andruet's car was 26713, not 27713. The car shown in the picture is his car (race #3)

I should have known that! Before I posted here, I looked at Gregor's Wikipedia entry for Gp 4 info; I noticed he was born in 1969 and thought, "what a lucky person, being able to drive cars like that so young" :D

A Ferrari 308 is hardly a car you'd usually associate with rallying, why did Group 4 attract unusual cars?

There was also a British privateer who rallied a Ferrari. Wasn't it Tony Worswick? I am sure it was something Worswick!

There's a Michelotto 308 for sale here, with a few pages explaining the car's development: http://wspr-racing.c.../dinoframe.html
