Does anyone has a photo of the MINI COOPER winner of the SPA 24H in 1966?

Gerard,

there was no such thing as a Mini winning Spa in 1966. The best (and only) MIni finisher was the VDS car of Sylvain/Lapeyre, 21st overall, 15th in division 2...

Rauno Aaltonen's outright win on the 1963 Alpine Rally, followed by

Paddy Hopkirk's 1st place overall on the 1966 Monte Carlo (However, the result was highly controversial, with the top finishers (including the BMC Mini Cooper S and Ford Cortina) disqualified on the dubious basis of their quartz-iodide single filament bulbs, allowing Citröen, who had made the necessary changes to their lighting systems just before the end of the event, to step up and take the winning slot)

Mini celebrates 40 years since its win at Bathurst in 1966 - Bob Holden and Rauno Aaltonen led home Mini Cooper S racers in the first nine places. A feat unmatched to this day.

The first official entry to the Spa 24hrs in a Mini Cooper was in 1969, both cars retired. For the record they were driven by J Handley/R.Enever & J.Rhodes/G.Mabbs.
They then tried again in 1970 with the same result. Same crews except this time John Handley was partnered by Alex Poole. What is interesting is they dragged out 2 old cars for this race, one being used on the 1967 Monte Carlo Rally.

The Austin Cooper Team won La Coupe du Roi in 1965, not in 1966.

Don't have a problem with BMC's in general - but at TNF, most questions are in need of an answer - in this thread, it was the other way round and the answer was wrong in the first place - but Marc figured it out allright...

Yes

just like millions of BMC vehicle owners out there....a never ending struggle to wrestle each continuous automotive fault finding problem that these quirkey vehicles throw up and one encounters time and time again :rolleyes:

I might add that I've never owned one (or even driven one) - but my father's automotive career started with a Morris Minor van as company car, our first family car was an Austin A30 - which was even sold at a small profit after two years of service. Both cars had excellent reliability as I recall.
