there was no such thing as a Mini winning Spa in 1966. The best (and only) MIni finisher was the VDS car of Sylvain/Lapeyre, 21st overall, 15th in division 2...

Paddy Hopkirk's 1st place overall on the 1966 Monte Carlo (However, the result was highly controversial, with the top finishers (including the BMC Mini Cooper S and Ford Cortina) disqualified on the dubious basis of their quartz-iodide single filament bulbs, allowing Citröen, who had made the necessary changes to their lighting systems just before the end of the event, to step up and take the winning slot)

Mini celebrates 40 years since its win at Bathurst in 1966 - Bob Holden and Rauno Aaltonen led home Mini Cooper S racers in the first nine places. A feat unmatched to this day.

They then tried again in 1970 with the same result. Same crews except this time John Handley was partnered by Alex Poole. What is interesting is they dragged out 2 old cars for this race, one being used on the 1967 Monte Carlo Rally.

Yes just like millions of BMC vehicle owners out there....a never ending struggle to wrestle each continuous automotive fault finding problem that these quirkey vehicles throw up and one encounters time and time again
