OK, so Schumi's qualifying results were scrapped, but since they were so for disciplinary rather than technical reasons, his "pole lap" will count in this game (see entry threads for -poorish- reference)...

Pole position: 73.898 seconds by Michael Flagmacher

Some very good guesses on a rather fast time, but none in combination with a guess on Michael.

The Popularity Pole
PP was set by Fernando Alonso, with a time of 74.771 seconds; 0.873 seconds off the actual pole. If the PP was an entry in the competition, it would have scored 2 points, for a total of 27 points.

This round had 40 entries; 5 guesses faster than pole, 35 slower than pole.
Slowest guess: 77.210 s
Fastest guess: 73.605 s
Pole man Michael Schumacher was guessed correctly by 27.5% of the entrants. Five different drivers were guessed for pole.

Let me see if I understand:
If the pole is lost due to a driver's intentional fault and he goes to the end of the grid you call it disciplinary and the pole stands;
On the other hand, if the engine explodes and the driver loses 10 positions due to a dumb rule you call it technical and - even though the driver goes to the press interviews as poler - you void it.

Very clever ... you punish the ones at no fault and gives a prize to the unsportmanship ones. :clap:

Totally agree with panzani (and I didn't pick Alonso).

To be clear, I don't hand out any prizes to Michael for this. In fact I'll never tell him about it.

I recognise technical infringement penalties because technical infringements may give the driver a speed advantage he wouldn't have if the car is within technical rules constraints. Even an engine change before qualifying could allow a driver to run the new engine on higher revs in qualifying.

I disregard disciplinary penalties because even if a driver has acted unsportsmanlike, the time would still be the closest representative of what was possible speed wise with a legal car in the qualifying session.

Thanks for your answer Maka - even though I disagree I obviously accept it, as long as it is clearly stated since the first run of your game. But I think you should consider changing it for next year anyway. Yesterday's farce showed that "if a driver has acted unsportsmanlike, the time would NOT still be the closest representative of what was possible speed wise with a legal car in the qualifying session", it could be slower than that.

And please, believe me, I did not complain because I picked Alonso up as the poler - actually I just realised it after dnbn's post. I just thought it was unfair.

CU in the British weekend!
