Then a few weeks later at "summer camp" (07/02) the headline about loosing that radio hero - "Mr. Fireball".
Other TNF'ers must have those dates that simply do not past by without paying respects.

You were in school, in gym class on May 30, 1964? That was the Memorial Day holiday in 1964, the "Last Monday in May as Memorial Day" didn't come about until the early 70's. For me, while Dave McDonald's passing was indeed a sad occasion, I was profounding shocked to lose one of my teenaged boy's heroes in that same crash, Eddie Sachs.

Incorrect wording on my part. That was a Saturday and basketball practice was taking place for the school "B" team. Sorry to say I practiced a lot but had very little playing time.
Dave had just raced and won at Augusta on March 1st, just two miles from home.
