I can not go through May 30th without remembering that day in gym class when the news arrived about Dave MacDonald (05/30) just six days after the news of Glenn Roberts (05/24).

Then a few weeks later at "summer camp" (07/02) the headline about loosing that radio hero - "Mr. Fireball".

Other TNF'ers must have those dates that simply do not past by without paying respects.

November 20 and February 28 should be outstanding for me... but I had to look them up, so I guess they aren't...

Also June 2... again I had to look it up.

The ones that I can never forget, due to the impact they had on me at the time:

7th April

8th May

5th September

and I always remember to pay my respects on 28th January.

I couldn't remember the exact date for that one Tim, but it would have been my third.

You were in school, in gym class on May 30, 1964? That was the Memorial Day holiday in 1964, the "Last Monday in May as Memorial Day" didn't come about until the early 70's. For me, while Dave McDonald's passing was indeed a sad occasion, I was profounding shocked to lose one of my teenaged boy's heroes in that same crash, Eddie Sachs.

14 August, although I'll confess it didn't mean an awful lot to me at the time.

2 June. That one just shook me rigid.

Incorrect wording on my part. That was a Saturday and basketball practice was taking place for the school "B" team. Sorry to say I practiced a lot but had very little playing time.

Dave had just raced and won at Augusta on March 1st, just two miles from home.
