While half of the racing community resounds with thundering debates about how to tackle the issue about replicas, "continuation editions", etc, etc, here's what's going on in the other half...

Ford GT in Japanese SuperGt Series

This is a new Ford Gt competing in the Gt300 class of the Japanese GT series...

I know, it's not a replica, nor is it a "continuation series", but "only" a modern car shaped in a classic style (btw,it looks a bit clumsy, with all those aero appendages, compared to its Le Mans ancestor, doesn't it?), nevertheless it strikes me that someone decided to enter such a car (beautiful and powerful, but obviously PR-conceived as a visual recall to past glories) in a contemporary racing series.

Has it happened before? I mean, has someone else ever entered a modern car dressed in "ancient clothes" against a pack of modern competitors? Only the Morgan's entry for the BPR GT Series (mid 90s) springs to my mind...

That Ford does lokk more reminiscent of a de Tomaso Pantera than a late sixties Le Mans winner.

Would the Kremer-built 917 count as the sort of thing you are thinking of?

I remember a Mitsubishi Pajero ran in a number of Dakar Raids with 30's style bodywork, not replica, but a look-alike, with modern mechanicals.

The Japanese entered Ford GT is quite strange too, as it has 300 bhp in GT300 form, about half the power available in the street car...must be some kind of a record too...?

I thought of the Kremer 917 as well.
There was a Group C car based on the Lola T70 IIRC.

Nimord more likely than De Cadanet. The De Cadanet was based on a mid 70s Lola group 6 was'nt it? and then became the first ADA group C2 car? The Nimrod had a roofline or something similar nicked from a T70 didnt it? I'l dig out that Le Mans marque book later.

The Haynes book Super Sports backs this up with a comment about the Nimrod monocoque having much in common with a T70.

It seems you're right. I looked around a bit and... actually the ADA O1 chassis was based on '74 Lola chassis and raced in 1982-83 as DeCadenet Lola. For 1983 a new bodywork was fitted and the car was entered alternately as group C/C junior (further informations HERE )

And...how the hell did you figure out that Mitsusada is a dentist? :rotfl:

It could be due to the pothead pixies and their flying teapot, we just cant say... but I am sure there was a Japanese racing driver of that name who was a Dentist - he may have done Le Mans and/or a high powered International level single seater series. I'l put the kettle on and have a think.

Not realy... the Lola de Cadenet was one car, and yes, raced in 82-83.... the ADA01 was another car, with bespoke chassis , designed at ADA, built by March. All running gear designed and built at ADA .

This car had a very Porsche 562 like chassis, and main body influence was the windscreen from the Gebhardt run previous year by ADA... there were a couple of spares...

Re Ford replica at GTA in Japan, see site in english... http://supergt.net/en/ also check out hilarious set of letters re the scrubbing of the Maserati MC12....

I don't know...I'm talking about this car...
http://www.racingspo...3-06-19-065.jpg

...listed by www.racingsportscars.com as a "De Cadenet Lola #T380-HU1=>LM-2 (Lola)" entered by François Duret, while many others sites and model cars manufacturers list it as an ADA 01.

Maybe, the car you were thinking of is the ADA 02 (1987), boasting a windscreen very similar to the Gebhardt JC843's (#8401, entered by ADA Engineering in 1986) one.

Yes, the ADA built by March, using Gebhardt windscreen is the 02 (and 03).....

Nice find! Perhaps a less unified design than the japanese Ford (it looks like a GT40 front grafted to a "standard" 199x GT rear end) , but a nice car overall. It had quite a long life for a racing car, too... from 1995 to 2001, although it encountered some success only in the French Gt series.

And sticking to the Gt40 theme, a chap called Jimmy Larsson raced a beefed-up replica (I think from MDA) in the 2000 Swedish GTR Championship: I post the LINK to the entire page, instead of the one to the picture (it's car no.9, anyway! ) for you all to see the strange mix of machinery entered for those events (Manta 400 Vs Viper GTS...)
