Hello all!
I'm looking for information on some special event with Niki Lauda, which took place sometimes in the 80's. It was a three-car show, where the first car was a Trabant (ex-East-German lowest-category car), the second some upper-category car, and the third an F1 car, driven by Niki Lauda. Each car completed one lap on the track, starting with some time difference, and it was arranged so that the overpasses happened at the same moment at a point of the track.
Does anyone know what it was, when it happened and where? I'd much appreciate any further details, or source of information, since I remember only as much as what I wrote. The memories are blurry, but some hint: maybe it was a sort of inauguration show of Hungaroring in 1986?

This sounds awfully similar to something I have on a VHS tape somewhere, recorded from German television years ago: Niki Lauda with his McLaren F1 car against two road cars at Silverstone (from memory, one of the normal saloon cars was a Ford Sierra). The latter started some time ahead of Niki, of course only to be overtaken by him hands-down, with an incredible speed difference. I remember very vaguely James Hunt may have participated in the 'race' as well (???).

I recall David Coulthard did something similar with his McLaren Mercedes at Silverstone.

It might have been" understanding F1". I can remember a small car starting, then a Porche 928, and after a time, Lauda took off in the McClaren and caught them both in half a lap.

This [sort of] reminds me of the GMTV (or whatever the breakfast tv show in question was called) who staged a *race* at Silverstone between its then in-house puppet character 'Roland Rat' - in a pink Ford Prefect? - and Roland Ratzenberger in his FF1600, circa 1988.

The Ratmobile was a 2-door Anglia or Popular not a 4-door Prefect. The first car I drove was my mum's Prefect so I know the difference.

Well I can tell you the Porsche 928S was the car that won the Willhire 24 hour race in 1983, and ten years after that ended up being driven in the Targa Tasmania by Mike Catchpole, but beyond that I have no idea!

Thanks Rob! I'm not sure it's not the same thing that I saw, but more probable that it was another event. I'll try to look for some more info on this one too:)
