hi hope somebody can help

i need to know what car lotus fitted (or were going to fit) a red and white lotus badge on?

it looks quite old white surround red center.

wondered if it was off a gold leaf 49 1968 that had black badges was this because jim clark died and the original badge was going to be white and red?

I was always told that the black badges were for a short period after a drivers death, but have wondered if it was actually the case? A friend of mine brought a 1970 Europa with a black badge, which he assumed was in memory of Rindt, but is this true??

The black badges were in memory of Jim Clark.

Originally the black badges were in memory of Jim Clark. I think they were fitted to the road cars for a year.

Then later during the JPS era, Chapman noticed that they still had several in stock and used them up on the 'special edition' JPS liveried Europas (or so I read somewhere).

The 1970 Europa may have had the wrong badge fitted as a replacement - I have seen a Europa with different badges on either side.

Virtually every "classic" Lotus left the factory in a different spec. depending on what was in the parts bin that day.

Black badges appeared sporadically but particularly in 68/69 after Jimmy's death.

Loti are sometimes advertised at a premium as "limited edition black badge models", this is (of course) cobblers.
