I was thinking of making a small compilation/tribute video of some of the best drivers and moments in F1. I'm quite young so I don't have personal memories of very many moments in F1, only things that I see in videos and season reviews so could you guys help me by telling some of the best moments, laps, races, battles, slides, car control, saves, etc... So I can then find some some video clips of them. Also if you have links to any video clips of good quality I would appreciate them also

The only one that sticks out in my head as all time #1 lap is the battle between Gilles Villeneuve vs. Rene Arnoux

I would pick out a few dramatic races from recent years: Belgium 1995, Monaco 1996, Canada 2000, Malaysia 2001. You could also get some good clips from Monte Carlo if you went for the 1982 and 1984 races. Australia 1995 was a case of who could keep going. Germany 1994 had one of the (best?) startline pile-ups. Look out for a couple of 2001 passes by J P Montoya - Brazil, San Marino and United States. Wet races are good... Japan 1976. I could personally list the best moments too look for if you support Alessandro Nannini......

Many good moments, indeed !

Does anyone remember the fight between Regazzoni and Peterson for an intermediate position during the 1974 British GP ? It lasted about 20 laps. Peterson desperately chasing Rega and both slipping sideways at almost every corner.

Other moments might include Clark's comeback at Monza '67, Fangio at the Nurburgring in '57, several of Villeneuve's races (Zandvoort '79, Jarama '81), any shots of Peterson in the Lotus 72 through Woodcote or Senna's opening lap at Donington in 1993.

Oh, when M. Balestre sauntered across the track at Silverstone at a time when the track was still live. Where was it ... just beyond Woodcote iirc. ;)

The last few laps by Jochen Rindt at Monaco in 1970. Stirring stuff.

I don't suppose any film exists of Hawthorn and Fangio at Reims in 1953

Mansell trying to get past Senna at Monaco in 1992

I take it you're looking for 'exciting' clips rather than 'historically significant' ones

Regazzoni, Lauda and Peterson being rescued by other drivers after their accidents.

I think film footage does exist of Hawthorn and fangio - I recall seeing some although it was b/w and quite grainy. I was looking for colour photos of the race yesterday and couldn't find any of Hawthorn or Fangio (although I did find a colour one of Gonzalez at the same race in wondourful colour)

Is there any film of Rodriguez and Amon at Spa in 1970 or Ickx and Rodriguez at Zandvoort in '71

Hence the quote in Autosport (or Autocourse) that Nicola Larini, starting from the pit-lane, lost a lot of respect amongst the other team owners by managing to miss him.

Technically Hawthorn v Fangio was not F1. But perhaps the greatest World Championship race ever? Forget JMF, it was the first time in the WC that Ascari had been beaten in a fair fight for nearly 2 years.

1774? Bit before my time, I'm afraid.

Mansell v Piquet, Silverstone, 1987 - one of the technically greatest overtaking manoeuvres ever? Identical cars, a triple WC involved, three laps to go, perhaps one chance to nail it, selling a dummy and holding on to it on the exit. By rights Mansell had no chance to make that stick. Worth it for the crowd reaction alone, they go apeshit.

And Mansell's Hungaroring move on Senna/Johansson in 1989.

Those two at the British GP at Brands the year before; another brilliant drive by Mansell.

Why does it still feel odd to praise Noige?!

That's the trouble with Mansell, his actions either left you feeling completely ecstatic or desperately miserable, with nothing much in between.

1969 British GP - the Stewart/Rindt duel

1970 German GP (the first at Hockenheim) - Rindt's precision

1972 Monaco GP - Jean-Pierre Beltoise's Wet Win

1982 Austrian GP - Not only the De Angelis/Rosberg duel but also Tambay's fight back from a second lap pit stop to replace a punctured tyre.

Two races where it wasn't driver against driver, but the first driver against the weather and the course and the second just because it made me really proud.
1) Jackie Stewart, Matra MS10 – Ford/Cosworth DFV, XXX Grosser Preis von Deutschland / Grand Prix d'Europe, Nürburgring Nordschleife winning by 4 minutes in the pouring rain.
2) Dan Gurney, Eagle TG1 – Weslake Type 58, XXVII Grote Prijs van Belgie, Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps where a driver in his own car won in a fairly dominate manner
