Well finally I've gotten around to this car, I've been meaning to do it for a few months but just kept putting it off.

Progress has been reasonable, the "Boxer" engine is, I hope, looking acceptable.

Still trying to get this one finished......

Rivets done, don't think I'll count them, I'll just say there's a few.

Front suspension taking shape, still have to do the lower wish.

Started on the inside of the tub, more rivets to do there.

(Edited to correct spelling)

As a rule 'Modern' F1 cars do nothing for me; engine in the wrong place, tires too wide etc, etc, but the Fazazz 312B was always different, mostly because of Lauda and Regga I think.

Lauda never drove the 312B, David - his first car was a B3.

Or did Niki drive the 312 PB (1974 model) in testing first?

AFAIR, the first Ferrari he drove was the late-1973 spec F1 312B3 at Fiorano.

[I paraphrase...] The car was shit. I said I could make it faster, and the 'Old Man' replied "if you don't make it 1.5 seconds a lap faster by the end of the test, your contract is cancelled..."

It was something along those lines anyway! It's all in his book 'For the record - my four years at Ferrari' which I have somewhere, but not to-hand.

Might I say that the front tyres [in particular] look way too wide...

I did think that myself, it was a last minute addition. I'll check later.

Right, there should be footage of that test at Fiorano (for sure I saw Regazzoni testing it). The Drake asked him 5 tenths better or sacked and Lauda went 8 tenths faster (interview to italian tv RAI). He modified the front supension

Have made the front wheels a bit narrower, they did conform to the sizes of the reference material, but they did look too wide. They still look quite wide tho :

Is your reference material dating from 1971? When they ran the 312 a few times that year, the tyre profiles were dramatically different to 1970...

Having said thet, they still look too wide even for '71! :drunk:

FW11B- it might be worth looking up the thread concerning tyre sizes in '61 (it was active quite recently, should be on first few pages)- there is some data on tyres, albeit Dunlop, and I think some links to websites, with data, for tyres for historic racing...

Excellent work, as ever in Your case. I've fiddled a bit with crude 3D modelling for my car, and I appreciate the skill required for work this good.

Thanks for the pointer Wolf, Unfortunately my models are not exact, each part is modeled relative to each other so the sizes don't really help.

I've reduced them again, no doubt they'll be too narrow now

Looking better already! When I'm done searching the globe for Wolseley 6/90 spares, I'll dig-out some period pics which are possibly safer as references when compared to a Tamiya 1:12 model (even though I love them, and have them all!).

Working on the rear wing, test material on the wheel rims - although this is open to change/discussion

Rear suspension now added....

Posted Image Posted Image

need to change the radiator ducts from black to white, dash board included, as is steering wheel.
Need to add cockpit cowl then sort out some of the textures, seems to be something wrong with the one on the rear wing, just doesn't look right.

...perhaps the problem with texture is because the front and rear wings, like the oil cooler airducts, on the 312B were painted white and not natural metal... :)

Can anyone Identify the Logo on the lower element of the rear wing in this PHOTO It's driving me nuts, I'm sure it looks familier but can't figure it out.

Yes, it's the Tergal logo, as seen here...

Posted Image

...on a model of a Porsche 908.

AFAIK Ferrari only ran with the Tergal logos in the 1971 Spanish GP.

I'm afraid I won't be of any use Eagle-wise... :|

The 312B is looking splendid! Are you basing it on any race in particular? I'm thinking of the different coloured stripes Ferrari used at Spa, 1970 for example.

Just had a look on your site....I was stunned really, that is fantastic work, haven't been that impressed in a long time! Roughly how long does a car take you to do? Don't suppose you've thought about your cars having any other applications...games perhaps?

I'm basing it on the photos from Donnington, they're the clearest ones I have for the sponsorship. I realise that there are so many different variations, just trying to find what the rear wing logo was made that apparent, thanks for Identifying that

I'd like to do one with the yellow stripe down the side but I'm not sure what the rest of the sponsorship would be.

Thanks for the above comments, it's always nice to get feedback, good or bad, but particularly good  As for the time it takes, I was checking last week, the Matra took 15 days, but that was pretty well all day every day, but now I have other priorities this one has taken me 3 months, an hour here and an hour there.

Yeah I'd love to get these cars into games, but that's just not practical. The smallest item on one of my cars has probably got the same number of polygons as a complete car in a game. They're only done for enjoyment, both my own in actually creating them and, more importantly, others in looking at them. I do often wonder if, as macoran suggested, they would be worth making into postcards or calanders....

Thanks Marc, your assistance is greatly appreciated, I'm intending to start on this one tonight, nothing planned for the weekend (Except watching the Race) so I should make good progress.
