'Nostalgia tech' - would a new forum be a good idea?

As a young guy (32 yoa) that has only recently purchased his first race car, which falls into the "nostalgia" criteria, I find myself desperately seeking tech on the subject. I wasn't around when my car was raced, hence the only place that I can go to learn about the subject is historic race meets, and they don't come around all that often. I live in a regional area, so being part of a club only provides limited benefits as I can't easily get to club meetings or readily go around to fellow club members places to pick up knowledge from them.

I have read through the tech section of Atlas. Although there are occasional gems, a lot of it seems to be written by less the knowledgeable people on the subject of modern F1. Not exactly what I'm looking for.

So what do you reckon, would it be a good idea to have a forum, where those with race cars that fit into the 'nostalgia' criteria can share their technological knowledge of these cars?

No reason why you or anyone else cannot start threads on technical matters here about past engineering solutions , such matters tend to be very well received here anyway.

We have had a few nostalgic technical threads here before. I started one myself (Click on following link) but it is really a ramble on how things used to be designed. I suspect you are really more interested in how to set things up?

Doc Knutsen is another who I think could help you…

I would love to see more stuff here about set up on cars from the late 60s, early 70s, when adjustability came into fashion and there were lots of ways you could make a car better or worse. I’m also interested on what is being done to these cars for current historic racing and how far things are getting away from original componentry.

Start a few threads and see what you get?

As an older guy, 57 yoa, I get tired by too much choice ....there is already technical forums here....why not just start a thread in TNF for your car....just like the M10B and Exact10

I personally feel these threads are much more interesting as all the information about a particular car type is in the one place....dats my suggestion..best of luck and welcome

A Mk7 Cheetah, powered by a 1600 Toyota 2t. Originally purchased from Brian Shead by Hugh Gartley. It's in the current AF2 configuration, although I hope to convert it back to it's original ground effect configuration or perhaps it's first flat bottom configuration in order to run it in Australian Historics as a Group R car.

Back to the forum idea. I would love to see a forum dedicated to just nostalgia tech. Trying to sort the nostalgia tech out from general nostalgia conversation is just way too painful, besides a lot of the tech is general in nature and not just specific to my car.

There is a forum on ten-tenths that is specifically devoted to Historic Racing, but it mainly focuses on the UK scene.

Australian Motor Racing Year 1986/87 (Berghouse Publishing Group) has a 4 page article on Brian Shead and Cheetah Cars, which may be of interest to you, if you don't already have it

As suggested, why not post your question in the appropriate forum for Cheetah Racing Cars and see what other owners think/how they can help.

If I had just a few question about my Cheetah I wouldn't hesitate to place the questions on the Cheetah thread. In reality I probably have hundreds of questions and most are general enough in nature to be answered by other people who frequent this forum, but aren't familiar with Cheetah's.

Looking at The Nostalgia Forum , the bulk of the content is not technical in nature, but is more concerned with history and reminiscing. The odd technical question is soon swamped by other threads.

I would love to see the creation of a new Nostalgia Tech Forum, that has the explicit aim of bringing the tech, and providing an easily accessible reservoir of knowledge for owners of all nostalgic race cars. The sort of topics discussed would typically be different than those discussed on the present forum. Topics discussed could include:

Rebuilding a Hewland
Repairing a tub
Setting a car up for radial tyres
Selecting a firebomb
Testing a fuel cell
Crack testing uprights
Inspecting wheels
Rebuilding a BDA
Sourcing parts for a Cooper Climax
Choosing rod ends
Selecting fasteners
Bumpsteer correction
etc
