Truly sorry to have withdrawn my nose temporarily, but have been in and out of hospital like a yo-yo, and felt it better to shut up until I could properly put up!

Awwww - shucks.

Credit to the car, really. When things weren't falling off, or liquids escaping, or engine mounts failing, or handbrake brackets pulling out of the floor or driver's seats breaking or engine mounts breaking or CV joints rattling or engine mounts breaking or fuel injection going berserk or engine mounts breaking, it was a pretty good car.

Oh, yeah, the diff blew up once. And it finally died at 60km/h in fourth gear when the crankshaft broke in half. And it had a broken engine mount at the time.

Seriously, a car with great handling (honest - well, for its day) and jus the right wheelbase.

Haven't seen a Camira, so couldn't comment, but is the P76 the Leyland that Evan Green rallied?......if so without being rude, it was a mighty ugly car...probably designed by a commitee that did not talk to each other! :rolleyes:

Got to admit that anyone that can win in a Camira is going to make anyone elses wins look lame!

I won a couple of races in a HQ Holden. :blush:

Thing is, if you could look past the styling and the quality problems - a rather large ask it must be said, but significantly overcome before the end iirc - it was a damn sight better thing than contemporary Kingswoods, Falcons and Valiants*.

I should now shut up ... having last weekend become the owner of a Zetland built Wolseley 15/60. :blush:

*I'm given to understand that at that time, the sign on the front of the Tonsley Park factory screamed "CHRYSLER ROOTES AUSTRALIA".

I won a Scalextric competition at the Gamages store in London in 1964 beating over 2000 other entrants.

I've still got the trophy to prove it.

Tommy and I won some form of slot-car racing championship, beating all-comers at the 1984 Racing Car Show! It was held over the ten-day duration of the show... :eek:

Somewhere I've got a pic of us on the platform racing against Gerry Marshall. The cars weren't Scalextrics as such; more like wings on wheels, and pretty quick and grippy (although the blokes running it - who were racing marshals as well as slotters - kept telling us that they were detuned!).

We each won, IIRC, an ill-fitting Mazda jacket and a Polaroid camera (the ones which gave you an *instant* print.) :rolleyes:

We left the show without the jackets, and neither camera worked from the word go...

Well, turn 4 just before the checkers.

Only problem I was not driving.

Qualified the '65 Stang but was two seconds a lap too slow to take care of the high dollar Edelbrock cars out of California so a buddy got in and did the job.

Perhaps a half-winner?

This year has been my first full season of sprinting after many years of talking about it!

I entered my Lotus Elan (a 26R replica) as a SPORTS LIBRE - didn't fancy Modified Production as there are usually a mass of those indecently quick Westfields to contend with!

I always planned to just do enough rounds to get a 'maximum score' and in fact through illness only managed 8 events. However imagine may shock when I found at mid-season I wasn't just doing well I was leading the SPORTS LIBRE CATEGORY! I managed to maintain my lead to the end of the season and will receive the winner's trophy in November at the awards evening.

The trouble is I will now have to defend my title! :yawn:
