Millers at Milwaukee

This weekend the Miller Offenhauser Historial Society has there big meeting at the very historical track at Milwaukee..

This year the meeting includes a show off many of those great Indianapolis roadsters.

I loved to be there but there where other things to do...
May be next year???

It was fun!
Highlight of the meet for me was when a line up was made featuring 8 single seater Millers and one twoseater: among which:

- the outboard frontbrake FWD 122, supposedly the one ordered by Jimmy Murphy.
- the Junior 8 special. (1925 RWD)
- Tommy Milton's 1924 Miller Spcl.
- the FWD Derby Miller
- the 1927 FWD Perfect circle special
- the 1926 RWD Perfect Circle Special
- 1931 Bowes Seal fast Spcl race winner.

Remarkably enough, despite their number, the wasn't a single one of the FWD Miller-Fords in sight.
I wonder how many Millers could have been at Goodwood with so many of them out here

Roadsters:

1957 McKay Kurtis 500G (Never knew that purple can be sooooooo sexy on a car...)
1960 Ewing Watson copy Joe hunt Magneto Spcl
1961 Coil spring Watson Sun City Watson
1953 Kurtis 500B Crawford spcl.
1952 Kurtis-Chrysler 500A

Some uprights were there as well as well as a 1919 Ballot, a 1909 Stoddard-Dayton and a Mercer.
Among the uprights two Leader cards, one of them the Bryan death trap and the Lesovsky in which Gary Bettenhausen took his rookie test at Indy in 1968, the last ever dirt car at IMS.


Yep. it was fun. Thanks to all who made that event possible.

What else can I do when seeing 8 of those classic beauties being lined up....
And I tell you, looking over the cowl of an FWD Miller is something else....
Not much to see other than that long, long nose....

was also surprised to see how difficult it is to get those Offy powered dirtcars moving out of a standstill.
Once the are at speed it's something worth to see but seeing them leave on pittlane is like watching a cripled old man preparing for a 100 meter hurles event.....

What an impressive website! That's real passion!

It was a lot of fun, we had 43 Indy cars on display plus another dozen + of the 'ousiders' which included many quarter-midgets, full-sized midgets, sprint cars and modified dirt racers. The oldest was a 1909 Stoddard-Dayton.

Former Indy car drivers included, David Hobbs and Billy Engelhart, along with midget drivers Frank Burany, Billy Wood and Mel Cornett were seen in the pits.

Henri was just one of several Europeans that came over. It's a nice event and then run up to Raod America for the Can-Am reunion this weekend. RA is about an hour north of Milwaukee, I love July in Wisconsin!
