Hi guys- and yes it is ALAN Grice, typing error that I cannot reverse!

Perhaps a little off topic, but through reading other touring car threads in the past on TNF I was hopeful that I could ask for some assistance.

I am putting together a small magazine and have an article on Grice and his victory at Bathurst in 1986. If anyone could provide some photos I could use (with full credit of course) I would be very grateful. The images would also go on the website.

Thanks for your help. :)

I have no pictures to offer, alas, but for what it's worth I clearly recall a post race interview in which Gricey was quizzed on the extraordinary pace he set from the start ... the implication being that it was perhaps excessively intrepid given the length of the race. He shot back calmly: "I was out to break a few hearts."

Sounds like a typical Grice comment! Despite this win I feel he was still an underated driver. I am sure the euro drivers had respect for him.

Gricey really came alive in 1986 - he's gone on record as saying that when he got to Europe for the ETC, he was delighted to see that the drivers there shared his philosphy on how hard to drive... mind you, he'd been near-vilified in Oz for his take on that sort of thing...

At one of, if not the, first meetings in which he competed, he walked up to the leading exponent of TC racers (he drove a TC) of the time and told him to watch out, as he was about to be beaten...

In the race, Grice had the most unholy crash, finishing up against the tree inside BP Bend at Oran Park. His bravado earned him an instant reputation with those close to the scene, but he erased that many years later.

This is my first attempt at posting a reply so hopefully it works.

1986 was one of the first Bathurst races I attended with camera in hand. Unfortunately the quality is not great as it was my first attempt at long lens 35mm photography and the pictures are scans from transparenices that have been (tragically) not looked after too well.

More to come if this works.

Android,
Could i be so bold as to ask for the high resolution scans of the R31 Skylines.
Being a Skyline owner, and having a friend that owns an R31, they are of great interest to me.

Thankyou.
Paul.

Scuderia SSS: Sorry, that isn't an R31, it's an R30. Nismo raced the R30 in Australia from the start of 1986 until the end of 1987; the R31 Skyline racer appeared mid-88.

Android: Nice photos :) Don't happen to have any from Bathurst 1988, do you?

Scuderia SSS: I had to get a mate to scan my transparencies as my scanner couldn't do it so unfortunately this is the highest resolution I have. I could only find one other shot of the Nissan but its from a fair distance away.

William Dale Jnr: Only 1986 and 87 I'm afraid. I took up motorbike racing in 87 so my interest in cars dropped off for quite a few years after this.

My mistake William, i cant see the large size as its being blocked by pop up stoppers and page script blockers.Only going by the tiny thumbnail.

Great pics Android.

Surely you can circumvent the pop-up stoppers?

Start using Mozilla Firefox if you can't, it openly offers you options on that sort of thing.

Ray,
I do use Mozilla, and do vent the pop-ups, but the extention script filter has too many options on some pages like imageshack. I have just disabled the feature to see the pics more closely.
Thanks

Paul.
