Roger and I could not work out the reasoning behind the word AMON on the cockpit side.

(This is NOT another attempt to start an Amon thread!)

I thought it was a BMMR sticker too.

And just to 'cap' it off - is that an Edmund Irvine helmet?

Looks like an HSCC sticker to me ( I should know!!), and yes, John Bladon always uses an old Eddie Irvine lid. I've no idea why he has 'Amon' on the side of the car, but it's always been there.

Chris Amon did in fact drive that Merlyn in 1000cc F2 with an SCA engine.Its now fitted with a twin cam. John Bladon also owns an M1 Mclaren as well hence the sticker !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its an HSCC Sticker NOT a Mclaren one. The first photo is course the Eagle,unfortunatly it did not run due to an engine push rod failure.

Modern style F1 helmets should be banned from historic racing. I cannot understand why John wears it. They just look horrible! Especially when it is an Irvine one who had/has no interest whatsoever in the history of his sport.
Why is it though that so many drivers just look far too large for the car they are driving? We see it so many times. Is it simply the build of the chap, do they have a different seat from period or could it be the illusion of wearing a modern larger helmet? For me Frank Sytner does it properly, it may be considered dangerous these days but driving his ex-Hobbs T70 will open face helmet and mask just looks 'right' - how it should be.

I can understand drivers feeling more secure in a modern full face helmet but by painting it in keeping with the period of the car they are racing makes such a difference, this photograph I took at this years Brands Hatch Superprix illustrates this well I think.

Could it be a hillclimb car from the sixties or seventies?

That would probably be the answer... though from what I've seen around here lately, it could well be a Canadian built FFord that someone's got and 'made safer' for historic racing.

It's a F5000 Lola (T192?) converted into a 2-seater to give punters a backseat ride; it was at the Historic Motor Racing show this year.

Roger and I also had to have a good think about this one. A board next to it implied that it had been built recently, I presume from old T190/192 parts. Anyone know anything more ?

The cars flanking it are much more interesting. 2 of the very many beautifully prepared Chevron 'open-wheelers' (why did they use this term rather than 'single seaters'?) these being Nick Shrigley Fiegls B28, and the similarly liveried B29 of Jo Sebastian. I assume the cars/drivers are linked in some way.

The two-seater gets a mention in the BWDRC report on the May Silverstone meeting..

'Lorina McLaughlin was also present, in the garages, as was former member Jo Sebastian who was looking after the journalists and customers taking rides in Nick Shrigley-Feigl’s two seater Formula 5000.'

So it belongs to Shrigley-Feigl but no metion of it's origin.

I think my prize for the most worried expression of the weekend goes to Jo as she tried to get her B29 through the paddock crowd to the collection area... lots of power and slow speed.. I didn't know ladies used THAT kind of language :lol:

Sorry I missed you Rob: I was only there on Monday.
The sun came out eventually and in some ways the meeting was better than I expected.

The Chevrons were very pretty….

Graeme Dodd drove hard in his Cooper Monaco to catch Philip Walker’s Lotus 15

Martin Stretton and Sean Walker were entertaining in their Elan 26Rs

But the meeting should have been called the Simon Hadfield Show, really....he won in three different cars on Monday

I was there for all three days, but the Retro Track and Air transporter wasn't :cry:

... the agreed meeting place disappeared on Sunday.
Without a reference point to meet was going to be difficult. I wandered around looking for badges but no luck. Maybe next time?

Now we are on to page two I'll post a few more photos tomorrow if anyone is interested.

The meeting included races for the Derek Bell Trophy series which allows single-seaters from more or less any category - especially F.5000.

Ive just noted the Lotus 72esque cooling slots on top of the nose. Did it have inboard front brakes?

The EAGLE was I beleive one of 3 5000s built and it is based on the Indy Car that was fitted with lotus 72 type front suspension. The Retro Transporter disapeared on Sundy night because the "Monday Cars" Broke.

Teddy was there but did not drive. After the Chevron single seater race he and Brian Redman gave interviews on the podium. I didn't get a photo, sorry

I would loved to have seen him behind the wheel of an F5000 again :love:

As to the B28(?) / B32.. if it is the B32 hillclimb car why would it have 'Brian Redman' on the cockpit side :confused:

...seen here at Shelsley a tad over 30 years ago?

The nose is different, but that's not too unusual. Without checking, the flanks of the car look too slim to be a B28.

As for the 'Bredman' name, that's not unique either - think of some of the other cars liveried-up so they appear as cars driven by others! There's a new-in-1973 BRM P160 now in 1971 Yardley spec for starters...

The Terrier Mk IV formula junior was, of course, the work of Len Terry. It had a fairly idealised space frame structure, and only the tail fairing and nose cone incorporated compund curvature - all other panels were single curvature for ease of manufacture.

Want to see a really ugly formula junior car:

(Copyright unknown - IIRC it stems from some hill-climbing site)

The very, er, individual Derossi...I think it's one of the ugliest ever racing cars - worse, even, than soem South American Formula Vees. Even my ugly Formula Vee isn't as ugly as that...

Makes the Terrier a real beaut' in comparison, doesn't it...

Was I the only one that was disappointed at the showing (not) of famous Chevron driver/car combinations at Oulton Park, Brian Redman and John Burton excepted? It was supposed to be a Chevron Celebration and we had three Chevron only races and numerous plugs for the Derek Bennet book.. that was it! Even the participants in the Chevron single-seater and sportscar races were the normal drivers... Teddy Pilette did not don overalls :cry:

Even if the 'older' drivers could not race, a parade of cars/drivers would have been better than nothing.

Tim Schenken (1968 Lombank F3 Champion) in a B9
Peter Gethin (1973 Race of Champions winner) in the Marathon liveried B24
Teddy Pilette (1973 Rothmans Champion) in a B24
Riccardo Patrese (1976 European F3 Champion) in a B34
John Lepp (1976 British Champion) in a B26
Keke Rosberg (1979 Tasman Champion) in a B39
Derek Daly (BP F3 Champion) in a B38
and many others with a Chevron connection… (insert your favourite here)
… even Tiff Needell in the Chevron B41 DFV!!

Maybe they were there, but I missed them?
