I've emailed the website to my Swiss friends and i'm going to try to get the DVD in some months

Quicktime 6.5 - nothing...
Download & install Quicktime7 - sound but no picture...
Now all of my older QT files have picture but no sound
...Uninstall QT7 and reinstall QT6.5
Aaaarrgh. Why do software manufacturers do this. What ever happened to testing?

I received a promotional copy yesterday and have just watched it. The documentary (rather than film) is called 'Live Fast, Die Young' and contains tons of original footage of Seppi at the races as well as some great stuff filmed on the road by Heini Mader. About half the docu is made up of interviews with his former mechanics, family and friends. Beautifully made and highly recommendable!

I just read something about the movie in Swiss Review.
"Jo Siffert -- Live Fast, Die Young" was the only Swiss film shown at the 2005 Locarno Film Festival.
I wonder if it's out on DVD yet in Europe?

When I saw it was released in 2006 I thought about leaving my asthma medication but, It wasn't that strange. it was a pre-release copy or a promotional one. The sound is very much 60s, in a a similar way to "Bullit's" but without that charm Lalo Schiffrin used to give to his work.
Any of you interested in a Cd-r copy of the record, just tell me.

I don't know if anyone's seen this movie but you really must buy it.
The footage is outstanding, the interviews are so interesting, personal and inspiring. It is just a brilliant and enthralling documentary about one of the greatest racing drivers of all time.
I didnt get to see it in the cinema, but it's just come out over here in Switzerland on double DVD and it is well worth buying. All the interviews are either in French, German or Italian, but the British subtitles are pretty good if, like me, you can't speak all three languages.

Good to know that there's a DVD on him now. Not much attention was given to 'Seppi', so a tribute to him is very welcome indeed. I ordered it yesterday and I'm looking forward to it.

Sounds interesting. I read the Seppi biography many years ago and have always been a fan.
It would be great if there was a version with say English narration and then the interviews subtitled.
Not so sure about the claim; "one of the top tend drivers of all time." Top 10 Swiss? Yes. May be one of the current top 10 drivers at the time of his death.

I tried to find a copy of the DVD when I was in Switzerland in April but couldn't find one. I read about the movie in the Swiss Revue, a bi-monthly magazine for Swiss living abroad.
I have an 11X14 picture of Jo from "The Speed Merchants", a helmet shot sitting in an F1 car, you see his eyes and the Swiss flag on his helmet. Right next to it I have an 11x14 helmet shot of myself in a Formula Barber Dodge, you see my eyes and the Swiss flag on my helmet. This was purely by accident. My dad took the pic of me on the grid at Laguna Seca and 7-8 years later I found the pic of Jo for sale at an auto book shop. $30 with the frame!
Eventhough, he died before I was born I have a lot of respect and admiration for him. I'm going to order one, have it shipped and get it transfered in NTSC format. When you live in L.A, that kind of stuff can get done for a small fee....

Just finished watching it. Fantastic! Great footage, great soundtrack and fascinating interviews. The subtitles didn't bother me at all.

I bought my copy from the Coop in Interlaken and it is well worth the money.
However the main film does have a problem with repetition of some footage (something that is increasingly commonplace in British TV life style and makeover programmes) and also the chronology jumps about a lot.
However this is a very moving film and there is a real sense of loss with three people almost crying on camera 35 odd years later. It is a realistic portrayal of life on the margins as continental motor racing used to be, living from day to day on minimal food, little money, used tyres and so forth. The sheer lunacy of the racing with no safety, narrow tracks and no margin for error comes across strongly. The 917 shots are breathtaking and watch out for the prone cameraman lying on his stomach on the inside of Eau Rouge to get the shot he wanted.
The extra bits were all shot by Heini Mader and unlike the main film, this is period racing footage only, mainly from 1963/4 with no latter day interviews, showing circuits and conditions that are quite alien to latter day eyes. Modern F1 bureaucracy and sponsors, never mind the drivers, would be scared witless. Wonderful, evocative and even for those who recall the era first hand a shock to realise how things have changed.
