Just a word that my project involving collecting all the racing results from Western Australia 1902-to date is progressing well, and what I've done to date is on my website www.terrywalkersplace.com

Then look under Around the Houses Supplement, Results.

So Far: 1920-1965 (very fragmentary so far); 1967-1974, 1980-1986

The gap between 1974 and 1980 is presently being filled. It should take another two or three weeks. Post 1969 are almost complete. For some obscure reason, the results sheets for the six hour races, and most of the 300 km races, are missing from the official results folders. Borrowed, I suspect, by another researcher to save the trouble of copying them.

Results are in .pdf format.

Bumped this up to advise that I have revamped and restructured my website, with the result that if anyone has any direct links into the results page in their "favourites", they will need to be re-created. Just go to the home page, it's now much clearer how to find them!

www.terrywalkersplace.com

Results now available:

1902-1945: Very patchy
1946-68: reasonable, but with a lot of omissions to be filled in
1969-1991: virtually complete, with a few minor gaps specially 1987

2003-2006: complete except "around the houses" regularity runs which are not organised by the WA Sporting Car Club, the source of my data at present.

I'm about to start on 1992-93. At present rate of progress, the 1969-2007 tranche ought to be complete by the end of the year. Then all I have to do is fill in the numerous gaps in the earlier years.

Where would WA racing history be without you, Terry?

You deserve a medal for all you've done over the years...

Bumped. Didn't make the deadline of having all Western Australian race results up on the site by Christmas. However, there's only 1994-1998, plus a few stray events in 2000 and 2001, and it's mostly complete.

Progress has slowed because as you get into the 1990s the number of events and competitors has risen, and the results went from 2 decimals of a second to 4 decimals of a second. The result is I get number-crazy after a while and have to give it a rest.

Once I've finished blocking in the 90s, I'll revisit the 1920s and 30s. This entails sitting in the State Library writing it all down longhand. Luckily there aren't many events, and not many competitors, in those days.

On the site itself, there are a few more race programme covers from the 1990s, and during the Xmas break I'll revise the Gallery section, adding new material.

The gap is closing and the end is in sight. I'm now filling in the late 1990s-2002.

I did a test print of the 1st 6 years of Wanneroo Park results, 1969-1975, and it came out at 220 A4 pages printed back-to-back. Six years out of 40, with recent years having many more competitors, and many more races, than the 70s.

My estimate is that the entire results for 1969-2008 will come to over 2,500 printed A4 pages, of which well over 2,000 pages have been posted on my website so far. A bit too thick to stack up and bang a staple through the top left corner.

Then there's the results 1902-1968, an as yet uncertain number, likely to be about 400 pages when (if) finished.

If someone had said to me, "Terry my son, here's two and a half thousand pages of race results on paper, how about typing them all up on a word processor so we can have a digital file of them?" you can imagine my response. The project started in about June 2007 so by the time I call it quits it will have taken less than a year, and I only ever worked on it part time.

On the plus side, it seems quite a lot of people now know about this results archive and now rummage in it.

Hi Terry
Along with the links you sent out I added your site as a news item on the VSCC WA site. This may have something to do with the added traffic.
It's a brilliant archive & to be commended

The archive of Western Australian motor racing results is now more or less complete.

That is, all those results which I have been able to find are now posted on my website, and all periods are covered 1901 to the end of 2007.

There are still gaps of course, specially in the early days. The main ones are the pre-war Lake Perkollili meetings, plus some of the post-war "Around the Houses" meetings. The period from 1969, the opening of Wanneroo Park, is much more complete, although some race meetings are still missing, and individual races within meetings also missing.

The missing year 1966 is now up, as official results of three of the probable 5 meetings turned up recently. Some official results from 1967 also turned up, an improvement on the sketchy "short" results previously published.

I will continue filling gaps, but progress from now on will be very slow. I am also in the process of tidying up the page layouts of the various files so they are more consistent - purely cosmetic, no data changes. Race meetings titles in bold 12 point Verdana instead of Courier, that sort of thing.

Thanks to the kind assistance of Brian Lear of NSW, I have greatly expanded the pre-war Western Australian Racing Results 1902-1935 and 1936-1945. Brian saw my website, noted the gaps, and mailed me bundles of photocopies of clippings full of results. And, importantly, actual dates too, instead of approximate dates, and he corrected a few errors, some large.

I have also added some material in the 1960s that turned up in a box full of 1980s papers in the W A Sporting Car Club's archives, plus brought the current results through to the end of 2008.

The most significant additions historically are the Boulder Racecourse race, 18 March 1909, the first in Western Australia for four-wheel cars (earlier event in 1902 was for tricars) plus some very early (1914-1915) Lake Perkolilli results.

Thanks once again to Brian Lear, there are further updates, substantial additions for periods 1945-50, 1951-1955, less so for 1959 and 1960.

Great effort, Terry.
One correction, if I may, in the 1989 ATCC race you've misspelt my name (as many do).

I've corrrected the spelling of "Ross Burbidge" (1989 ATCC, only 1 r) and added a whole new section devoted to Trials and Rally results, very very far from complete and unlikely ever to be complete as they're even more ephemeral than race results, and there were so many different organising clubs.

There's also a general renovation going on, where some old stuff will be deleted, new graphics and whatnot put in. It was getting a tad stale. I've decided to end the Race Results section at Season 2009 for the time being, as such recent results are still readily available elsewhere.

So far as I can tell, I've just about got all the Race results I can get from Western Australia, but no doubt as soon as I say that, a new lot will turn up (hope!)

Keeping Results etc, in terrywalkersplace.com, but having a general tart-up now that the Results section is pretty near as complete as it is likely to be. I'm now moving towards a monthly feature; December's is Caversham. January probably something on a retired local race driver of note. After that, whim will tell.

www.terrywalkersplace.com

There's been a bit of work done on the site lately: articles on the history of F Ford and F Vee, plus a profile of Stuart Kostera (Snr), more additions to the rally results.

I'm using the site to put up sample material which will eventually appear in "Around the Raceway".
