It's perfectly understandable though that Kimi didnt get it. Even if he won it in the end, he struggled a bit too much in the beginning, and only won it thanks to rookie mistakes.

Pitkämäki was a very good choice. He had a near perfect season on world class level. Personally I'd not have liked to see that woman skier, who was caught of using doping earlier, winning it.

Perfectly understandable though that Autosport is upset ;) Readers might even think all the drivers are not superior sportsmen to Putkämäki :lol:

Fact is that too many finnish sport journos are close-minded snobs who rarely rate any "modern" sportsman highly, they rather keep voting those same track & field athletes, skijumpers, cross-country skiers etc. "traditional" finnish sports while dissing sports like motor racing, ice hockey etc.

In every open poll Kimi has won the sportsman of the year title hands down, it's the journalists who don't want to vote athletes like Kimi.

Of the 500+ journalists, 48 didn't even put Kimi on their top 10 lists. Imagine that.

Then again, Kimi couldn't give a flying **** what those backwood redneck journos think about him.

Yep, Kimi doesn't give a **** if he is sports person of the year or not, he won the championship and that is all that matters.

Since u cant really compare sports, i would say it would be better to just make a list of the top sportmen of the year, and then depending on how many ppl included the same person, convert the results to percentages. Ranking them is wrong

Not sure if they "diss" ice hockey.

But yeah, they usually vote for skijumpers, cross-country skiers or javelin throwers. Traditional sports men/women who live in Finland, always say yes for interview or photoshoot and never forget to point out how FINNISH they are. Kimi lives abroad and is pretty much out of reach for majority of Finnish journos.

I guess they are pissed off since (based on TV ratings) the most popular sport in Finland is...F1

Did you wonder why there was no response at the FOM broadcast from Kimi to the words of Chris Dyer after the race? Apparently Kimi's first words were "f'ing hell". :lol:

heard this too, pit bikes, and after he had diner with the organizers and took the boat back to finland. He must really love the motorcrossing. Good to see he staying so normal guy :up:

No pics, it was a closed event, but I have a little bit more info on it.

The event was kept in secret, otherwise media would have been all over them.

The organizers were amazed at his fitness saying "we do 5-6 laps, but he did 20 laps, barley broke a sweat and wasn`t even breathing heavily."

Räikkönen liked the track, wondered if its worth the bother to take the bike back to finland as the only inside track there are is not as good as the one in Tallinn and promised to come back.
