I'm kind of over the Lewis vs Alonso battle of 2007 but just watched my copy of the 2007 F1 season review and I am sure the footage of Lewis' gear selection problem in Brasil is different to that I saw on Youtube just after the race. I was 100% sure after watching the Youtube footage (can't find it on there now) that Lewis caused the problem by hitting the now famous button (mainly going off the audio of when the car went into neutral) but the audio for the official video seems to be different.

Am I just paranoid (due to some of the 'unusual' incidents surrounding a certain driver this year) or have they edited the footage/soundtrack?

The video from the review is up on Youtube but I can't find the original version.

What about Alonso vs Heidfeld at France, they're side by side into the chicane and the commentary goes something like "But then a mistake from Heidfeld lets Alonso through" when Nick clearly chose to cut across the chicane rather than die a horrible fiery death if he stayed on track.

Also missed Kimi having a go at Lewis at Silverstone and countless other things bleh.

just finished watching it for the first time a few mins ago...........i know it went on in total for over 3hrs but it seemed to go quick, and seemed to miss various bits of action, and didnt show much on track passing........but i expected that as there wasnt much (apart from in the wet races or where faster cars were out of position such as wen massa stalled at silverstone) i've seen better f1 season reviews, but equally i've seen worse

reasonable reliable sources have stated he didnt cause the error, atleast not with the button...

he wasn't questioning whether Hamilton did a mistake or not. He was just pointing out that the video footage seems different

My head hurts after reading that ill informed and badly argued thread... to save you a similar fate, let me summarise it for you:

OFFICIAL: WE DON'T KNOW WHETHER HAMILITON PRESSED A BUTTON OR NOT.

keep in mind YouTube videos can often have their sound slightly out of sync. Especially if its a dodgy upload.

It's certainly alot more probably than 'doctoring' DVD footage. They struggled to black out all the 'sensitive' information the WMSC transcripts, i can only chuckle at the thought of them adding glowing green break discs to onboard footage of Lewis.

It's not surprising that conspiracy theories circulate about this incident. I just watched the interview with LH on the ITV year review and he seemed far from convincing when questioned about the issue, wanting to move on to other matters. I certainly haven't seen a good explanation from McLaren engineering either.

We may have to wait for somebody's memoirs for the truth to come out on what really happened.

Having watched the replay that was shown in the race and the review. I nearly 100% certain that the problem occured when Hamilton shifted down a gear before the corner. His button pressing didn't cause the error. When the car didn't shift down it went into some sort of safe mode. Whatever caused the shifting to fail I suppose we never know.

I thought we were pretty sure he did press a button but were unclear about WHEN he pressed it (before or after) and whether he SHOULD have pressed it. Or perhaps Ive just eaten too much christmas pud

When a good explanation is lacking even after a significant period of time has passed, it is usually a case of team covering for their driver (opposite can also happen, of course). Has happened many times in the past.

My recollection:

The youtube video didnt have sound IIRC so all you could see was him apparently braking for the corner then pressing a button at the apex and then slowing significantly and being passed.

The FIA review had immaculate sound and seem to confirm my belief his button pressing was trying to resolve an issue that happened in the braking zone.

What happened to the "magnetic field glitch" theory? I liked that one, sort of apealled to my science-fiction affinity.

Just watched the ITV 07 review which, predictably is a as much a Lewis Hamilton's season review.

On the Brazil car problem:

LH: "But then all of a sudden the car just stopped. I was shifting down, think I was in the 5th gear and the thing just went into neutral."

If he was in 5th it was near the beginning of the braking zone when the problem occured. Such is the decelleration from top speed drivers will be rapid firing down the gears almost the instant the throttle is lifted.

I was thinking about buying it now that Kimi finally won the championship, but if it misses the best bits of the champion's attack I'm not going to bother.

Me either, he would obviously be in 7th before braking. He'd probably be in 5th a couple of tenths of a second after lifting and braking.

Magnetic field created by an invisible UFO which came from Mars and was flying over Interlagos and watching Brazilian GP? And now the aliens decided to forge FIA F1 Review in order to remove the trace of their unfortunate impact on championship result? Seems quite more likely than a rookie feverishly hitting the wrong button indeed! :D
