The chrome treatment on the McLaren's has transformed the car into a "Chrome Arrow" which is not nice IMO, I'd like the silver or aluminium look to return IMO.
If I was an F1 designer, I'd have the basic car made with transparent gelcoats, thereby showing off the fibres in the composites. Although they are mostly black, I still think it would be cool. And I'd do special paint jobs during the year, depending on the country and maybe some other reasons. I always loved the BMW art race cars - I wish BMW would do some of them. Why not commission local artists for various countries?
The RBR is a good colour on a still pic, but I suspect you need a good TV to recognise the clever paint job during a race.
F1 race cars also need to look different from each other - last year there was a car that looked a bit like the McLaren - I hated that. So, I very much like the Honda, because its easy to recognize on the track. It used to look too much like the Toyota.

So, I guess I can't really pick a worst..............except...............the Honda. What a grand idea, not exactly working at 150mph+???? (do you think they can really change after taking that kind of marketing/image position)
So this is the solid colour argument.
For 2007, the the team colours layouts were, if you can view Autosport graphics:
.
.
Renault, blue orange white, main sponsor (ING) look:
.
.
Ferrari, red and main sponsor (Marlboro) decal look red white stripe:
.
.
Mclaren, chrome silver and Red sponsor (Vodaphone) look:
.
.
Honda, various green/blue look:
.
.
BMW Sauber, White with some blue and red trim:
.
.
Toyota, White and Red with some blue main sponsor (Panasonic):
.
.
Williams, Blue and white with main sponsors Lenovo and RBS:
.
.
Red Bull, Blue with blue, red and white trim, its main sponsor being itself in red logo:
.
.
Toro Rosso, Blue and red with white trim, its main sponsor being itself in the English Red Bull logo:
.
.
Spyker as it was - Orange, now Force India and I don't recall what the colour will be :
.
.
Super Aguri, I think it was grey?
.
.
Feel free to correct what actually happened.

You know that is a perfect idea for F1. Surely the sponsors wont be so worried about their logo's looking perfect when there is routine coverage specifically aimed at what the car looks like each race. It would add so much more valuable coverage of their companys.
Back of the grid teams could really cash in from that.

I remember back in the early BAR days that there was some FIA regulation stating that you could not dramatically vary your livery during the season.
I could have made all that up, but thats how i remember it?

I think it was more the two different cars in a team liveries they regulated against.
That's why BAR "zippered" both cars with different left/right livery.
Changes were never stopped, because BAR actually raced in some races with VERY different
livery, in Brazil and China notably 04 and 05 IIRC

I think including orange in a livery destroys the cars capabilities. Look at Arrows, the MP4/21, (during winter tests), Spyker and last years Renault. Orange in F1 is just bad luck.

That wasn't orange. Just a slightly off red.

Yeah - people who haven't been to races called it orange. Those who got off their back sides to a few races can see it was red. That said, I do prefer the stronger red of 2007/8.Originally posted by Josta

And I would say the same about McLaren....but it would be based on our respective allegiances rather than objectivity I believe.Originally posted by Owen
Although I've no doubt the Ferrari will be supremely effective, it ain't exactly gifted in the looks department.

But, of course!;) but you must admit the Ferrari nose is... different.
As I say, sure it's devastatingly quick.

Indeed - I've never seen a nose look like it has more potential for tearing up the white lines since I saw Kate Moss loitering around with a credit card and a rolled-up tenner!Originally posted by Owen

I guess if they're aerodynamically superior everyone will be using them, but if so I wish they wouldn't try and make them look like something that they're not!

I think if you click on the graphics of each car, the address would be shown in the header. If you cannot see the graphic, then clicking on the icon should reveal the address. The graphics are from the autosport web site, which has such stuff.

edit: actually, it doesn't. It is far more smoother, and back of the car actually looks good (at least from th the side). However, the painting has not changed.
another edit: well, back of the car does look good, but the wing still makes it look fat.

While they've stuck to the regurgitant yellow-white-orange-blue colour combo, they've at least managed to make it not look like a dog's breakfast.
Is the Williams black, or very very very very dark blue ?

I think that the BMW is the best looking car out there so far this year, pending Honda's release.

As for Renault, it's a pity ING has such incompatible colours, they are really horrible, but they are Dutch so they "have" to carry orange. Anyway I preferred the 2006 one, it looked quite good.
The others, well I agree with most opinions. Ferrari is gorgeous as usual, I'm glad they left the dark red they used for a while last season. McLaren is not too original compared to last year, but it looks good, although I never liked silver too much for being too cold, I think last year I saw the car painted with some white and more red too in the pre-season and it was beautiful.
Toyota I'm afraid is awful, and I haven't seen any other.

McLaren have the stainless steel saucepan look
Toyota still red and white like the Japanese flag with a twist this year
BMW are blue and white andbland
Renault with a few more colour could be the new rainbow warrior but are not green
Williams are a livery's fan wet dream, what next???

The twist being that there's no big red circle, just a blotch of scratchy redness in random places just like last year and the year before and the year before etc etc.Originally posted by Phucaigh

Although I must admit that whoever posted the comment that the Renault looks like an F1 car in a clown suit almost had me sold on the idea of that one being the fugliest.
But no, the Toyota still wins. So far. Just need to see that Honda...

If a car is fast is is also beutiful.
For pure beaut we have to go back to the sixties.
That is my humble opinion

I agree. Beauty in today's F1 means speed. And further, if its slow, its not only ugly, but its dumb as well.
