Does your road car match your team? And should it?

Or not? Let's see with a poll.
And if we don't support our teams with our choice of road car (I don't), what does that mean, if anything?
Are they all wasting their money?

I did use to own a FIAT punto : and yes I chose it because of the FIAT connection to Ferrari. Suffice to say its as near as I'll ever get to owning a Ferrari roadcar

Until they get rid of Reubens and the my earth dream livery I just can't.
I'm working on my wife to let me get a sports car gonna shoot for a Ferrari doubt she will go for it. Probably end up with a Merc, I really like the F1 pace car version.

But F1 has influence on my car choice inasmuch as I'll never ever buy a Mercedes...

As to your second question, no they are not all wasting money, participating in F1 is just a part of the overall brand image that manufacturers are creating.
The win on Sunday, sell on Monday mechanism is no more.

My half-brother works for Mercedes and has promised me a day at Brooklands doing some advanced driving which should be fun, but I'm a long (loooooooong) way off being able to afford a Mercedes of my own right now ;)

But I live in Manhattan for now, so no need car for one...
Even though I'm Ferrari supporter, the brand is too flashy for me...
Although a 430 Scuderia sounds like loads of fun.
The Fiorano and Scalgietti are yes technical masterpieces, but their design is atrocious.
I drove a FIAT Uno Fire when I lived in Rome, red was the colour.

I vote the above option

I've been a life long supporter of Williams.
My car history is as follows: Yugo, Vauxhall Nova, VW Jetta, Vauxhall Astra, Ford Fiesta.
Given a fat cheque I'd probably go out and by an Audi RS4.

enzo fxx evoluzione anytime over the bugatti
During the latest season of Top Gear there was an episode where they compared the Audi TT, Alfa Romeo Brera and the Mazda RX8. They concluded that although the Brera is the worst car mechanically, they would pick it over the rest. So they would buy it for theirselves but never suggest it to anybody else.

Fair point, I do that for Touring Cars, reversing the support hoping "my" car wins. But from the point of view of manufacturers spending the money to be in F1, that's not really the idea

The Yugo and the RS4. Talk about two cars at opposite ends of the auto spectrum. As for the topic, I couldn't care less. I've never been influenced that way.

The only time that I actually owned a car that I supported in F1 was back in 2002 when I had a Jaguar XKR.
Irve the Swerve was my favourite driver. I must admit that I bought the car just because I liked it as opposed to any F1 loyalty.

so neither of the vote options are appropriate for me ... can we have a 'yes but not in support' or something?

This is consistent with the fact than in 2005/6 Renault sales in Spain fell by 2% while interest in F1 went from almost nil to huge, and their hero was driving a Renault.
So the obvious reason for a manufacturer to be in F1 does not seem to work.
Marketers might say "brand awareness", but these are all famous brands anyway, would the buying public really be more aware of, say, Audi and Porsche if they entered? Or less aware of Toyota if they pulled out?
Or do the guys who make the decisions just like going to the races?

People don't actually still think that "racing improves the breed", do they? Especially Formula One, anyway. It's really just a PR excercise for the involved companies.
