Mmm, seems to have gone from a lady's man to a lady-man.

Always liked the swerve though - met him towards the end of the 1999 season, (when he looked in a good chance of winning WDC) - and he was pretty much cool-as-****.

Still, he's had a credible F1 career, has furthered his fortune through property, and presumably spends his life shagging women cuter than the average Forum-Poster's Mrs (or indeed Mrs Forum Posters), can probably walk into any F1 pitlane at will and generally leads a life that many would consider more desirable than their own.

His autobiography was a crock of self-serving ****, but apart from that minor transgression...Go Eddie!

Done well with the property portfolio too has the Swerve, Miami beach and all.

Looks good.

Judging by that horrible film he waddles like a duck, but I like the hair.

What happened? nothing, he's still one of the greatest British F1 drivers of all time

Not quite sure what you are trying to infer about the female members of this forum, we might be very attractive for all you know ;)

Speaking from a female perspective I believe the attraction felt by females is generally when they are still an F1 driver (the fast cars, the glamourous locations etc etc), once they leave the sport, fall out of the limelight and end up looking like a dirty hippy we very quickly lose interest

Former grand prix winner Eddie Irvine has slammed F1's governing body for turning the pinnacle of motor racing into "tiddlywinks".

The 42-year-old Ulsterman, who nearly won the title for Ferrari before retiring as a Jaguar driver in 2002, accuses the FIA of dumbing down formula one to the point that it is no longer a true sport.

Irvine told the Guardian newspaper that he subscribes to legendary American novelist Ernest Hemingway's quote that only bullfighting, mountaineering and motor racing are sports -- "all the rest are merely games".

But "formula one seems intent on trying to become a game," Irvine said.

He does not agree that trying to slow down the cars and ramping up safety should be the primary focus of the FIA.

"Now it's not much of a gladiatorial contest," he said, observing that the FIA has been influenced by governments "who have other agendas than sporting competition".

"Take Monaco," Irvine said. "It used to be the ultimate test of a driver not making a mistake. Now they have changed the swimming pool, taken out barriers.

"It's as if they have said: 'Let's make this circuit as easy as we can'."

Wasn't he the one who was angry when Lauda made similar comments about F1 years ago ?
Lauda said that even a monkey could drive an F1 car now, and Irvine was not pleased at all.
Now, he is the one making similar comments. Oh well.

Maybe, but I don't think I disagree with him.

I think that Lauda's comment that even a monkey could drive an F1 car was unfair then and is unfair now. Having seen what physical training the drivers have to do, and how people cope that haven't had that training (Brundle and Blundell), I am in awe at how hard it must be to do the things that they do.

But with regards to constantly meddling in order to slow the cars and the Health and Safety Brigade watering down some of the only classic tracks left on the calender ... I think Eddie's spot on.

Eddie Irvine will remain one of my favourite drivers of all time. Some classic quotes.
