Under normal racing conditions (i.e not half the grid wiped out first corner) it will not happen.

Wishful thinking :drunk:

Aussie GP always have unpredictable results, and Fisi is unpredictable driver

With some other people slipping up (ie some race retirements) then it seems possible to me. Not sure if he expressed in that way though. :

Fisichella and Force India have been putting in some pretty impressive times in winter testing. I think it's perfectly reasonable for them to look at the progress they feel that they have made and begin aiming for success. Perhaps it would be preferable to some that the 'smaller' teams just rolled over and died - didn't care for the idea of attempting to be competitive.

Who, in reality, have been much quicker? Ferrari and McLaren are, for sure, out of reach. Williams seem to have taken a step forward. BMW might have too much for them, but then what? Red Bull, Toro Rosso, Renault, Toyota, Honda and Super Aguri are by no means out of reach of them - and surely they should be applauded for wanting to take them on, not scoffed at for daring to?

Full race distance without traction control might spring up some surprises....especially under racing conditions and not just testing.
A little extra power could spin you under pressure and Fisi aint no rookie.

Fisi says his first objective is Q2.

He will firstly need to get rid of two SA's, two Hondas, Sutil and at least one STR, for example.

I don't think he has more than 10% of chances of doing so.

Or; one or two Toyotas, or Renault. The Hondas have hardly been setting the world alight during testing, Super Aguri have barely done any testing, Toyota, similarly, haven't been scaring anybody. Why do you rate his chances so lowly?

I'm eying some super models, you know under the right conditions I might be able to score some points with one of them.

Agree. Whether or not they can achieve their lofty goals is a purely different matter but I admire their determination in trying to get better. I mean, if you aren't there to get into the points, why bother racing? Sure, we won't know where everyone stands until the season starts but their times in testing have served notice that they just might spring a few surprises.

So the season is starting and the anti Fisi thread also...

I cannot see nothing to smile about a simple target....get the Q2 and hope to score one point in a the first race of the season with a lot of things unpredictable...

Probably Fisi knows more about his race pace during the test in comparizon with the other teams than you.

I really hope that Fisi will surprise some of you this season..

I hope Fisi does well. He may come up with a suprise or two in races where a lot of mid-grid teams DNF. Their package seem a lot more reliable compared to the teams just above them.

I would love to see a day where any team on the grid could possibly win the race, and I agree the are not out there just for the fun of it. If a driver is thinking I'm only hoping to finish the race I wouldn't want him in my car.

For the simple reason that at Barcelona RBR, Williams, Renault, Toyota dipped bellow 21.5 and Spyker never did better than low-22's. And I don't think Fisi has been testing always with 50-60+ kgs of fuel.

Even on spec series this is not possible... Penske, Ganassi and Andretti Green are always winning on IRL, NASCAR has always the same teams winning etc...

It's a long shot he'll compete for a win, but remember Oliver Panis Monaco 96, or Fisi's win at Brazil 2003, even the random lottery races count, because situations allow a car to stay ahead, and sometimes that's what f1 is about, and not the top team always expecting to have things their way. So I wouldn't laugh, what if Fisi won? It's possible.

Show some respect for the element of chance and the many workers working hard behind force India to get a result.

Q2 seems realistic to me, they might need a car or two ahead to mess up, but it could perfectly happen. Points in this race is too optimistic, though, I think something really weird would need to happen for it. Over the course of the whole season it will probably happen (Sutil scored points last year!) but for a single race the probability is too small.

We'll see soon. I think Force India have made a step forward but testing is just testing. I know I've made some detailed predictions recently and that wasn't far from the popular opinion, however I think we're getting ahead of ourselves a bit: it's perfectly possible that we'll be surprised this weekend, just look at how Super Aguri vs Honda was last year in Melbourne, nobody predicted it.

He is a good candidate for winning the race of finishing last.

It could be a close fight but I think the rotate prize team whatever it's name is now is the favorite to finish last.

1:21.5 to 1:22.2 isn't that far apart, especially when you consider that last year's Spyker would've been 2-2.5 seconds slower than those cars. Also, Force India will be adding a couple of aero pieces which might give them another tenth or two before Melbourne. Fisi will do the rest...

I'm sure his teammate will finish lower most of the time ... and even Hondas are going to have a hard time ...

Wasnt there a big pile up or something in that race as well. And that is a distinct possibility.

Though I dont see Fisi scoring a point. It is improbable, but not impossible.

Fisi is a mystery to me  ...

I always rated him before he moved to Renault and thought he would give Alonso a run for his money (this was back before FA was a 2xWDC remember). He wilted when he had a top car - nowhere close to Fernando and - BAFFLINGLY - SEEMED TO ACCEPT IT!!!!

Now he's back in a small team, nothing is expected of him, and he's full of fighting talk and has re-found his gung-ho attitude.

I still believe Fisi has great talent but perhaps not very smart and perhaps lacking 'character'. He's like a footballer who is a wizard week-in-week-out but wilts when the REALLY important match comes along...

It will be interesting to see if he can indeed get into Q2. Throughout winter testing the Force India car has looked quick in his hands and among the top 10-12 times on the timesheets. Thus I can see where his optimism comes from. I would be dissapointed if he can't get any points during the season, but scoring them right at the outset appears very difficult. However the current situation of the team looks far better than it looked twelve months ago. You never know, stranger things have happened in F1.

Good Luck Fisi.
