A friend of mine asked me this question and I thought I knew the answer. Nope. Or at least I'm unclear. So..

Can anyone tell me what restrictions are there on the team to test at the various tracks on the circuit? I know that some teams have their tracks, but specifically, can they test on any track that is not hosting a race during that weekend?

Thanks

They can test at any approved for F1 track, but are limited to a total of 30000km/year.

Edit
Should add they are also limited to one car at tests.

Can't be bothered to look up the exact figures for each track, but a race is normally around the 300km mark (Monaco being the notable exception at 260km), so 18*300 gives 5400km.

*2=10800km

or 33.3% or testing mileage.

True, but I still think it should be upto the teams how much they can use their cars outside of a race weekend.

indeed. i was actually intrigued cos i read too many 0s on the first number you gave. 3.3% would be silly!

How about tracks owned by teams?

Ferrari has a track close to its' factory, if it's sanctioned by the FIA as a F1 track, testing on that track would be included in the 30,000 km, if it isn't, then doesn't Ferrari get more miles to test?

It's counted. The benefit is that they can test for lower costs, and less time to transport equipment etc. I imagine their efficiency would be increased with their own facility. Toyota and Honda own race tracks, but they are too far away to be test tracks (in Japan). Toyota has or had an arrangement with a French track too. It takes the teams and equipment a day evidently to get to the Spanish test tracks from the UK.
